SBMM vs Pips
Apparently it is safe to say that SBMM is only about escapes. Even the devs admited it now in an interview.
So whats the point if even the washed up pip system can tell you more about skill then the current SBMM? Why is it in the game?
For the record, the escaperate has absolutly 0 meaning if you are good or bad at a game, not even in the long run. This truth is reflected in my and probably in everybodys games. It is not rare the weaker survivors escape while the guy who takes the heat and runs the killer for a long time eventually dies facecamped on the hook.
Pips are not a good system to measure skill, but compared to that SBMM nonsense we have right now... i would even rather take that instead. At least you get props for contributing to the game like safing, getting chased and beeing useful in general.
Any opinions about that?

Pips still exist, and they're still what gives you your rewards.
SBMM is working better thank rank based matchmaking ever did.
Honestly, pips are still bad. But it's a lot better at measuring how "good" you are than the current system we have.
It forces Survivors to focus on doing side objectives, rescue others, take charge and keep the Killer busy with chases, finish objectives.
It forces the Killer to spread out their kills, to end chases early, to keep the pressure up.
Like i said, I agree that pips are not a good way to measure skill and they have to add some sort of ladder system to that, but measuring on escapes alone? Many games i escape i play poorly and many games i die i played great.
Scott did an interesting video about that topic too, have not fully watched it but so far his point does make sense imho.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qs5s3M-6Q2U&t=The MMR is about balance and ensuring people get to experience "winning" and "losing" in equal amounts. It's a way to encourage people to continue as they don't feel they are getting battered down every game.
The grading is about fairness, and focuses on rewarding those with either dedicated game time or those who participate a lot in each round, gaining good scores in all 4 of the Emblems, resulting in rewards at the end of each month.
Since ranking is no longer a thing, the game is now focused on giving players a fair crack of the whip in terms of trials, whilst rewarding those who play more often or perform better.
