The Cenobite changes
After I played enough hours on The Cenobite, I have a couple of ideas on how to make it more fun for both killer and survivor players.
First, let's try to improve the potential of his chains in chases. The main problem with cenobite chains is that they rely too much on random and on the map. Since making the chains non-destructible by the environment would be too boring, and probably too powerful, I suggest making a few improvements.
Buffs:
1) Enabling the Impaling Wire addon by default, which will create additional pressure on the survivors if they breaks the chains using the environment.
2) Making the chains prefer to appear in front of the survivor and not behind, which will make the chains better for most situations and also save us from the situation when the newly appeared chain breaks by hitting a cenobite that chases the victim or simply reaching its maximum length (18 m) .
3) More difficult change to implement is that the chains that appear not under the control of the cenobite do not go in a straight line, but tend a little towards the targeted survivor (much slower than the chain under the control of the cenobite), this will avoid quite frequent situations when the chain that appears in the open field misses a survivor who just runs in a straight line. It will also force the survivors to pay attention to the emerging chains and try to dodge them, and not just ignore.
4) More control over possessed chains. As with the old Blight, you can dodge them by making a sharp turn right before they hit you.
5) Increase the limit on the number of chains to 6. For every 8 meters that the chain has passed, create an additional chain on the survivor. All six chains will be created if the chain is hit at the very end of its path or if the range addons are used. It will reward players for trying long range shots.
6) If the chain is broken immediately after appearing, try to create another. Should help against situations where chains are created behind obstacles and do not even have a chance to hit a survivor.
7) Spawn gateway slightly higher than it is now and remove the restriction on turning the camera down so that you can conveniently attack the survivors who are hiding in the gateway.
8) When gateway opens turn killer camera to nearest survivor if any in sight (currently it use vector of killer gaze), and when return to killer restore vector of gaze killer has before opening the gateway.
9) Increase the time to remove one chain from 1 to 1.25.
Nerfs:
1) Engineer's Fang needs to be changed completely, now it gives too much advantage over normal ability, without significant drawbacks.
2) Slightly increase the delay before chain firing after opening a gateway to allow survivors to react to a threat if the gateway opens directly above the survivor.
3) If you blind a cenobite when it uses his ability, he will be stunned and the ability will be interrupted. I believe that the idea that a flashlight can be used to counteract the killers powers is also quite appropriate here.
In general, these changes should reduce the amount of frustration that cenobite players experience when hits with their ability are not rewarding, but rather just wasting time. They also stimulate the desire not just to put the gateways directly on the survivors and make quick shots (as The Deathslinger showed us, the survivors are not happy with this type of gameplay), but to creatively place the gateways and try to hit from a slightly greater distance, allowing the survivors to also participate in this game. Also, given that the chains will no longer break too quickly and it will not be so easy to ignore them, the survivors during the chase will have to pay attention to the gate and try to dodge the attack of the chains.
And now about the part where the number of nerfs will be more than the number of buffs. Yes, I'm talking about Chain Hunts. While this mechanic is mostly okay, there are a few changes to prepare for it.
Buffs:
1) Increase Lament Configuration solving time to 10 seconds.
2) While a Chain Hunt is inactive, Survivors beyond 40 metres of the Lament Configuration can not see its aura. Iridescent Lament Configuration - While a Chain Hunt is inactive, Survivors beyond 16 metres of the Lament Configuration can not see its aura. While a Chain Hunt is inactive, Killer can see Lament Configuration aura if he in 16 metres of it.
Nerfs:
1) Spawn Lament Configuration 10 seconds after match starts. 10 seconds more before the start of the first hunt. Survivors and the killer are already scattered across the map, making it less likely that the killer will pinpoint the Lament Configuration's location. Neutralizes the influence of the Lethal Pursuer perk.
2) If the killer picks up Lament Configuration for the second time in a row, increase the delay before spawning to 30 seconds but create 4 chains on all survivors. If the killer picks up the Lament Configuration for the third time in a row, then 6 chains are created on all survivors, but the Lament Configuration will appear only after 45 seconds and the Chain Hunts ends. (While box not in a trial Chain Hunt not active)
3) Larry's Remains time increase changed from 4 to 2. Like with GF restoration addons this addon find its way in most of cenobite builds. Better take its power in to base kit. Liquified Gore time increase changed from 2 to 1, but better change this addon to something new and exciting.
4) Hoarder - does not work on items from killers powers (Lament Configuration, Vaccine). Better buff this perk, than make it mandatory for some killers.
5) Franklin's Demise - same treatment here. For buff, if it necessary, maybe it can activates on special attacks.
These changes are intended to give survivors a respite if the killer is constantly pursuing the target holding the Lament Configuration. Preventing Chain Hunt from being sustained throughout the match. Also, given that now Chain Hunt cannot be permanent, it is worth slightly increasing the time it takes to solve Lament Configuration, at the same time weakening the corresponding add-ons. Also a small buff to Iridescent Lament Configuration which now allows survivors and killer to find Lament Configurations with the same chance.
Thanks to everyone who has read to the end, I hope that such changes could increase the level of fun for those who play both for and against the Сenobite.
See you in the fog!
