honing stone?

So the killer had honing stone, it was a trapper. I bent to disarm the trap and it immediately went off and trapped me, took 7 tries to get out then I was crawling. I thought honing stone only put you in the dying state, does it make traps into "booby traps" that if you try to disarm it downs you?
