Vote to End the Match

There are many ways to disconnect from a trial; going offline, exiting the match normally, using End Task to prevent yourself from playing against those sweaty Survivors that just ran a Haddonfield Offering.

There's also a Disconnect Penalty system for players who repeatedly disconnect from the game during a match. And it got me thinking: Why are the developers doing the bare minimum?

Yes, you heard me, the DC Penalty is just the bare minimum and the developers should be doing more to make it better for just about everybody. Not just that, but the bare minimum doesn't even work to begin with.

Picture this ever-so-common scenario. A Survivor player disconnects from the game, leaving only four other players; three Survivors and one Killer. This means that the game still has to be played out unless one of two things happens; either the Killer disconnects or the Survivors all disconnect afterward, and only then will it end the match.

But there's an unfortunate side-effect of this that occurs; no matter who disconnects, those that end up doing it after the first person disconnects will also receive a DC Penalty just by proxy. This is pretty much unfair for the Killer in all cases, and can be mostly unfair for the other Survivors, granted they are not on the same team as the other Survivor player who did disconnect in the first place.

But fixing this isn't that simple, is it?

Yes it is, in concept at least.

The Solution: Vote to End Match

Simply put, this new system of "Vote to End Match" fixes the problem of the first Survivor player disconnecting by allowing the other Survivors and the Killer to have the option to disconnect.

Now how does this work in theory?

  • After a single Survivor player disconnects from the game, the option to "End Match" will be available to all Survivors and Killers after they press the "Escape" key.
    • This replaces the "Leave Match" button once one Survivor escapes.
  • Upon pressing "End Match", text will pop up on the bottom center of the screen that will say, "Players have voted to end Match... (1/4)"
  • This voting will last approximately 1 minute.
  • To end the match, at least 3 players need to vote to end it. Doing so will prompt the game to end within 30 seconds.
  • If all 4 players vote to end the match, then the match will end immediately.

What if the Survivors don't want to End Match?

As there's a majority of Survivors vs the Killer in this case, there's actually going to be quite the conundrum that would develop if Survivors either just don't want to leave or are a part of the team of the original disconnecting Survivor.

Well, another system would be in place to prevent this from happening, too.

  • If there are two or less votes to leave the match in a given game, and the Killer has voted to end the match, the Killer has another option to end the match itself.
  • This new option is "Force End Match", which does as it says; forcibly ends the match then and there.

How Will Survivors and Killers Know to End Match Together?

In order to better communicate to each other about whether or not they want to continue the match or end it, Survivors and Killers now have the ability to chat to each other if one Survivor disconnects, which will allow them to know whether or not they want to quit the match!

What Happens at the Post-Game?

The only thing that would be affected post-game is how much Bloodpoints you earn. Due to this new system, a new Bloodpoint reward known as "Match Ended" will reward all Survivors and Killers 10,000 Bloodpoints automatically, except the Survivor who initially disconnected.

Your rank will not go up or down unless you decide to play out the match in full.

And that's basically it. The new system that would save so many peoples' times and efforts just because one Survivor decided to screw everything up. It still won't be perfect, granted, but it'd be the best thing to add to this game since Pyramid Head's butt cheek buffs.

Community, what do you think? Do you think you would want a system like this to just finally come to the game so that we can have a healthier game for the future? Or do you have a differing opinion?
