Michael Myers |Talking about the issues he has and why they are such big issues|

Michael Myers, a.k.a The Shape, A.K.A stalky boi, a.k.a pichael dyers, is the first licensed killer in dbd and I wanna talk about him today because I feel like this is important to talk about

Michael is a killer that has alot of design flaws to his power that used to work back in the day, but in the current times for dbd he has lost what he once had.

Issues

Michael used to florish back in the day due to how the game didn't have alot of perks and the meta was entirely different back then, however now that we have over 20 killers and 6 pages worth of killer perks (I know this as I recently got Demogorgon to have all 6 pages filled), he isn't exactly strong anymore and his power is outclassed by everyone else.

Michael is a chase orientated killer, who has to work to get himself stronger and then eventually gain tier 3 to instadown survivors for 60 seconds (Changed with add-ons). His issue is that he is all chase but his chase power is heavily weighed down by how survivors have a limit to how long you can stalk a survivor, and his power is (iirc) the only power in dbd that cannot gain 8k deviousness without add-ons.

Stalking and time efficency

Michael has to stalk to gain tiers, however how long it takes at certain ranges weighs down on him alot and due to how his power is, you have to be able to stalk the survivors up to tier 3 to have his actual power. The issue with this is that well, you spend alot of time going to tier 3 and with some add-ons, it can take way longer to hit tier 3, so you will lose alot of generators just by trying to apply pressure due to his lack of mobility. He also has alot of maps where stalking is very iffy and corn maps are dreadful as him.

Chase

His chase, even in tier 3, isn't that great. His tier 3 exposes all survivors, extends the lunge, and lets him vault quicker for 60 seconds, sounds good until you realize that his tier 3 is basically just a normal chase, but with exposed. Compared to other killers, he is outclassed heavily. Wraith's extended lunge is incredibly helpful and is a speed boost out of cloak, allowing lunges longer than Michael's lunge, spirit follows this as well. Blight is both mobility and chase, Clown has a slow down, which can actually make survivors lose alot of distance at times, and so much more, and I am not even talking about add-ons. His power is incredibly outdated and doesn't fit in dbd now because...every other killer does what he can do but better.

add-ons

His add-ons are incredibly outdated, with a purple add-on that doesn't punish you for getting a free kill at all outside of losing tier 3, a combo with a UR and Rare allows him to get tier 3 very quickly permanently, all of these add-ons made sense back then but now they don't, his add-ons are not meant for current dbd and need to be revised.

Conclusion

Michael is outdated in multiple regions of his power due to power creeps by other killers and other killers just being better than him, even with an exposed ability he can't close the distance as well as other killers and his "counter part" ghostface can expose survivors while being undetectable, allowing him to get closer to survivors than Michael usually can. What Michael needs is a full rework and add-on pass to keep him relevant

  • Just give him a free shirtless cosmetic and survivors will start dropping like flies.

You have a point, survivors will be like moths to a flame with him

  • I enjoy Mike and perform quite well with him but I agree he could use some changes as I personally just run Hair Brush/Bow with memorial flower/myers memorial. I hate the fact I can only hit evil within a limited amount of times as that's his power. Only killer that has a limit like that to his power. Also why the hell can't he stalk through corn those maps are dreadful with him. Now what I do like is his add-ons allow him to change the way the game is played. I love that about him there are so many different ways to play him. I just hope if/when they update him the Mirrors stay. I like them both.

  • I don't think he needs a full rework just some improvements. He can't have any different power. We just need to make early game not as bad and make Tier 2 be a good tier until you can go tier 3. You are right he is a chase focused killer and we should keep that aspect by making that aspect stronger. He's supposed to be this Unstopable Evil.

Wraith's Lunge after cloack is not better than tier 3 Myers Lunge. Myers can very quickly mind game you and hit you while Wraith has to uncloack at the right time and place and might even need to bodyblock to prevent survivors from reaching safety, so you're doing more work than Myers. Wraith is hopping people Camp Pallets to get a mindgame and since pallet hit validation has been changed, most likely due to how he was getting hits on pallet campers, you're now safer against Wraith if you're pallet camping. You don't wanna pallet camp against Myers or Ghostface tho. As a Ghostface main i mind game every single pallet that has an LOS block and that's how i get more downs.

Why should Tombstone Piece Punish Myers more than it already does? He can only use it twice during a match and you need extra stalking already. You want more Punishment than wasting more time when time is the single most important aspect of playing killer...And the FullbStone requires tremendous amount of stalking, that's alot of time of literally doing nothing but starring at someone's butt, again you're trading time for a gigantic power up to make the late game advantageous to you.

  • All he needs is an addon rework and a buff at Tier 2

**Addon rework, Stalk limit and stalk speed rework

  • I think you're missing a few points from this.

    • Myers has a limit on how many times he can use his power per match.
      • THIS IS HUGE. No other killer in the game has a limit to their main power. After Myers loses this, he becomes an M1 killer with a small terror radius for the rest of the game.
    • Myers' stalk distance mumbo jumbo, attacking, the fact that he doesn't actually have to "stalk."
      • Myers' stalk distance having a penalty encourages him to get closer to survivors and potentially expose him, however, being close to survivors means that you typically want to attack them. The problem with this is that if you attack or grab them, you gain no Evil to use your actual power. You're being forced into a lose-lose scenario. If you're in chase with survivors, you're also not stalking them. They can see you. Myers can just slowly build up Evil on survivors that are clearly aware of his presence. The forced interactions between Myers and survivors (and lack thereof) feel pretty bad on both sides. Encourage Myers to actually stalk people, and allow him to gain Evil from injuring or grabbing.
    • 99%-ing Evil Within is inconsistent and feels sloppy.
    • Tier I and Tier II are effectively pointless.
      • Especially Tier I, as once you tier-up, you cannot revert to Tier I. This feels like a waste of the Tier system as Myers is encouraged to get out of Tier I as quickly as possible. Tier I and II need substantial changes and Myers should have the freedom to use all three of his Tiers.

(shameless plug) I had a few ideas for how to fix his issues (add-ons not included). If you think of any more problematic features of his be sure to leave an update.

It feels like with each passing month Michael Myers feels more and more antiquated and buggy. With a power design that hails from the early days of DBD and has hardly been changed since, Myers could use quite a few changes to make him as menacing as he was previously, as well as a more viable choice to play.

Of course, the spirit of the power's design will remain, but a few new things, some older, and flip-arounds here and there will make all the difference.

I'm basing this on an earlier rework concept I made for him, but with a few tweaks from myself and ideas taken from JottScund. You can find both in the spoilers below:

    Now, let's get into it.

    Power: Evil Within

The Shape can activate his Evil Within by tormenting and stalking his prey, allowing him to grow more powerful over the course of the trial, or take his prey by surprise.

    General Changes:

    • Removed the cap on the amount of times Myers can tier-up.
    • Removed the stalk distance penalty.
    • Added the ability for survivors to reduce Myers' stalk rate by 75% when looking at him.
    • Added the ability for Myers to gain Evil by hitting a survivor (10%) and grabbing survivors (50%).
    • Removed the need for Myers to 99% the Evil Within Gauge. Filling the gauge will prompt players to tier-up.
    • Increased the amount of Evil required to tier-up to 150% of its current value (currently 6 secs to tier-up, now 9 secs).
    • Survivors who are fully stalked still grant Evil, but at a reduced rate of 50%.

These changes are aimed to fix general frustrations players may have with Myers' gameplay and certain mechanics. No more stalk distance penalty means that Myers can now stalk at an equal rate from any distance (provided survivors are not looking at him, requiring players to actually stalk survivors). Having a cap on the amount of times Myers can tier-up is a very antiquated design choice that simply does not fit in current DBD; most killers do not have a limit on the amount of times they can use their power these days. Being able to gain Evil from hitting survivors allow for more aggressive styles of play and grabs mean that players don't have to sacrifice Evil they could have potentially gained from waiting and stalking. No more need to 99%, which means the dedicated servers won't mess up tiering up any more and players don't have to pay too much attention to the gauge.

    Evil Within I:

This version of Evil Within I effectively functions like the current Evil Within II. Myers will be a fairly basic "M1 killer" with his only difference being a small Terror Radius.

    While in Evil Within I,

    • The Shape has a Terror Radius of 16 meters.
    • The Shape moves at a speed of 4.6 m/s or 115%.
    • The Shape has a normal lunge range and vaulting speed.

Once Myers fills the Evil Within Gauge, he can instantly enter Evil Within II or Evil Within III.

    Evil Within II:

This is where things will really change up.

Press and hold the Active Ability command to enter Evil Within II.

The Shape can drain his Evil Within in order to enter Evil Within II to sneak up on survivor, at the cost of some of his available time in Evil Within III. Hold the Active Ability command to begin draining Evil Within at a rate of 10% per second, up to a maximum of 50%. The Shape can be in the Evil Within II state for 20 seconds.

    While in Evil Within II,

    • The Shape is Undetectable.
    • The Shape puts away his weapon, becoming unable to directly attack survivors-- but can still grab them.
    • The Shape moves at a speed of 5.0 m/s or 125%.
    • The Shape has an increased vaulting speed of 1.48 secs.
    • Survivors who are fully stalked will be revealed by Killer Instinct for 4 seconds.

Grabbing a survivor refunds the Evil used to enter Evil Within II and instantly activates the state.

Myers can enter Evil Within III at any time while in Evil Within II. Entering EWIII from EWII takes 3 seconds, with Myers moving at a reduced speed of 3.8 m/s or 95%. While doing this, the tier-up warning will play for all survivors, briefly giving them the chance to react. If Myers does not enter Evil Within III before the duration of Evil Within II ends, he will go back to the Evil Within I state.

    Evil Within III:

In Evil Within III, The Shape has greatly increased attributes, able to fell his prey with swift ease. Evil Within III lasts for 60 seconds with 100% of the gauge.

    • The Shape has an increased Terror Radius of 40 meters.
    • The Shape moves at a speed of 4.6 m/s or 115%.
    • The Shape has an increased lunge range.
    • The Shape has an increased vaulting speed of 1.275 seconds.
    • The Shape picks up and drops survivors, as well as performs break actions 10% faster.
    • Survivors who are fully stalked will be revealed by Killer Instinct for 6 seconds.

Once the duration of EWIII ends, Myers returns to the Evil Within I state.

    _______

Sporting a much more modern and flexible power, this will make Myers much stronger and more terrifying to go against. With additional map pressure and stealth capabilities, as well as more information and awareness, Myers will also be encouraged in a sense to fully stalk survivors in order to catch them off-guard later on.

Skipping add-on changes, though I have some ideas in the thread I linked above if you wanna check them out!

That's all I have-- so please leave your feedback, and thanks for reading. :)

  • I like Myers concept, its unique and extremly fun to play and verse, but you are right, he feels outdated and also weak.

It takes to long to gain tier 2 and his tier 3 is not that scary 2bh.

    Changes

    • Stalk capacitiy should reset after tier 3. With that i mean after tier 3 every survivor is fully stalkable again.
    • Tier 2 should not take that long to gain.
    • Distance stalking is fine in my opinion, but they should buff it significantly, when he is close up.
    • Make tier 3 a bit more powerful. Give him a build in Brutal Strenght so he can get rid of pallets quicker.

  • Stalky Boi an idol.
