One of the biggest problems with dbd, knowing how hard to try as killer
One of the biggest issues that has become clear the more I play dbd and watch others play dbd is that killer has one big issue that leads to a lot of tunneling, camping, and slugging later in matches, and that issue is not knowing how much effort to put into a match.
Here is a spectrum
Tryharding, since you don't know how much effort to put in you always just use optimal ways to win and hope the match sorts itself out using tunneling, and camping no matter the situation just so they don't have to guess wrong if they needed less effort or not.
Temporary Tryhard, tunnels immedietly at the start of the match, then plays the rest of the match normal juggling three survivors, its the opposite of reactionary tryharding
High energy casual, and Casual, Doesn't bother themselves with winning so they just play for fun
Reactionary, this is like delayed tryharding but its mostly normal at the start of the match but if the killer feels they are doing bad they shift more towards the tryharding playstyle if they feel thats the only way to eek out a win at that point, usually complains when they lose that they didn't start using a dirty playstyle early enough into the match
Sensitive Reactionary, like regular reactionary but more sensitive, the slightest infraction or slight means they use camping and tunneling, most of the time its not even to win its just to get back at another player, doesn't actually use tunneling and camping for most other reasons
Now here at the problems with the spectrum
Tryharding all the time makes solos a bad experience and swf unfun when the first hook is camped to death
Temporary tryhard is like the first one but you know the match is forfeit since now the killer has made it a 3v1 and can usually juggle the entire team slowly witling down hook states for a guaranteed loss which also feels bad
Casual, more people have fun but the killers have less fun since they don't get to win as often, if they put in more effort they burn themselves out faster because more effort for less reward feels bad
Reactionary, usually is done too early or too late and is commonly depicted as a tryhard for just playing in response to how the survivors play, often complains retroactively that they did it too late and can easily lead to tryharding in future matches
Sensitive reactionary, Using tunneling and camping just to dig at survivors is frankly annoying and a gen or two done at first hook will definetly kick them into tryhard gear
Either way its hard to play killer and know how much effort to put in or what playstyle to stick to, if you react to how the survivors play you lose matches, if you play casually you lose matches, if you tryhard survivors don't have fun, its a vicious cycle as a killer trying to balance survivor experiences with your own and own fun ingame since its usually a tightrope walk because you never know what you are getting into 99% of the time (the 1% is a swf with a clan tag pretty obvious what you are getting into).
(terms used are not meant to be a dig at players its just meant to give names to create a spectrum for comparison sake)

Well at rank 1 you can assume that most survivors have a brain and I usually go 100% until a dc happens or its a potato squad.
I agree. Voice comms would improve this game a ton.
