Is Franklin's Demise only for Basic Attacks?

PsychoTron

In-game the description doesn't mention about it needing to hit with a basic attack.

But when I'm playing as Leatherface and I chainsaw the survivor, I notice that it doesn't make them drop their item.

Yeah, it's basic attacks only.

However, LF has an add-on that allows you to make survivors drop items with a chainsaw hit.

Yes, it’s just for basic attacks. Leatherface has an add-on that’ll make them drop items from chainsaw hits though.
