Feedback on the Rift Pass progression from a casual player's perspective.
I've been playing DBD on/off for few years and just recently got back into the game and was excited to try out the Rift Pass progression system for the latest tome. So I bought the rift pass and started working towards week 1's tasks. After completing the whole week 1 (took me about 1,5 weeks) I was quite burned out with the game because I really had to put in all of my gaming hours to DBD just to complete the challenges. This set me around tier 15 of the rift pass, which is quite decent if I were to complete all the following weeks as well. However I feel the rift pass is far too demanding to actually complete while playing casually and I decided not to pursuit it any longer and just keep enjoying the game casually. To be honest pursuing the Rift Pass as a casual player felt really stressful.
Because of my experience with the Rift Pass, I will no longer be purchasing the passes unless BHVR does some changes which are catered towards to casual players. Here a few suggestion I've seen done with battle passes that reduce the fomo and make the whole progress more deterministic and fun.
1) Add Rift Fragment rewards to dailies (i.e. 5-10 fragments for completing a daily task). You already have the daily system in place so it would be a simple fix for casuals and actually gave an option to reach the end of the Rift Pass just playing casually (i.e. few matches a day).
2) Add Premium purchase option for Rift Pass (+5-7 $) that allows either faster progression (2x rift fragments / level) or simply starts out from Tier 20 so you'll only need to complete 50 tiers to reach the end.
3) Remove the fomo from the Rift Pass so you can earn the rewards at your own pace.
- I'm aware you can buy the tiers with $'s, but this is unsatisfying because you aren't really 'earning' them.
- I'm aware that hardcore players want the challenge of completing the Rift Pass slower and long-term
- I'm aware that Rift Pass rewards are fully cosmetic and completely unnecessary
- I'm aware they buffed the Rift Fragment rate in the recent patch but this was mostly for hardcore players because XP is mainly earned by being in-game.
- I'm aware casual players might be a minority in DBD
The reason why I decided to make my first feedback post on the forums is after hearing their thoughts in the 5th anniversary stream about making new player experience better and I feel taking into consideration the casual playerbase would be a good step towards that direction and making the Rift Pass feel more enticing than stressful would also be an excellent non-predatory way towards this goal.
Thank you for considering my feedback and thank you for the constant improvements on DBD. It's a game that always finds it's way to my SSD and I love supporting the game with new DLCs. However I don't see Rift Pass or Rift Pass tier skips a fun way to spend money at its' current state because of the amount of time I can spend on the game without going to extreme lengths or simply getting burned out.
