Shimmer of Blades by Ji-Woon Hak

The silly title aside, this is a Trickster buff thread where I'm going to suggest a few changes to the flamboyant superstar's overall kit and power. This isn't a thread that desires to completely overhaul him or the system, but rather to give him things that may be necessary moving forward.

Killer - The Trickster

Attributes

  • Buff: Movement speed is increased to 115% (from 110%)
    • This basically allows Trickster to have proper mobility since unlike Huntress or Deathslinger, he has no real immediate method of getting longer-ranged injuries on Survivors, and he has no ability to buff his movement speed unlike a character like Spirit, Shape, Hag or Nurse.
  • Change: Trickster's difficulty level is changed from Easy to Intermediate.
    • This is due in part to the relative difficulty of throwing his knives through various corners and objects, longer ranges and also the changes to his abilities down below.

Power: Showstopper

  • Buff: Time to enter the Throw State is reduced to 0.25 seconds (from 0.35 seconds)
  • Buff: Charge time is also subsequently reduced to 0.25 seconds

Special Ability: Main Event

  • Buff: Main Event no longer has a time limit to enter the state.
    • This allows it to be able to be used at practically any point when The Trickster has the opportunity to, akin to other Killers with similar abilities, such as Legion and The Oni. This also encourages the usage of Main Event as an ability, as the time limit often discouraged players from actually utilizing it.
  • Nerf: The amount of charges required to access Main Event is now increased to 30 (from 20) to compensate for its increased utility.
  • Buff: The amount of charges required to access Main Event is also now based on Laceration damage. Dealing more Laceration damage will increase the charge by however much was produced.

Add-Ons

Death Throes Compilation

  • Clarification: The description of the add-on is changed to clarify the minimum and maximum range of the Laceration power on the first descriptor, as well as properly clarifies the second descriptor.
    • Even I don't know what the second descriptor even means because it's extremely vague, even after trying to research it. The point about descriptions of perks and add-ons is to not be confusing, but to clarify what they do for a Killer or Survivor.

End Conclusion

These are basically what I believe would make Trickster go from what could be considered one of the worst Killers in the game by some to a potential middle tier character. I think that The Trickster's overall gameplay design is all well-and-good in concept, but it needs some impactful buffs to really ensure that he's not left behind in terms of balance.

If anyone else has different ideas on how to buff The Trickster, I'd love to hear. If you also disagree, I'd love to know why. I do personally believe this might be the best course of action for Trickster in the long run, but it's nice to hear everyone else's thoughts.

Comments

  • Addendums

    • Nerf: Main Event's total active duration is reduced from 8 seconds (from 10 seconds)
      • This is to further compensate for the new utility that the move receives in its suggested rework.

Additionally, the change to Showstopper's charge time and throwing state time is largely due to responsiveness. It'd feel better overall to throw them with a more responsive time rather than a less responsive time.

  • give him better chase music that's more reminiscent of pop music and less reminiscent of scripted chase scene in RE 6

I dunno, it sounds like the haunted cheers of dead fans with a synth drop that's often constant. Pop music wouldn't fit since, well, it's not scary.

Yes, and so his theme gets that point across too, does it not? It's a distorted variant of a song, something that can never be finished because no one's there to finish it. Always on loop, no melody, just mostly one note that is truly haunting.
