Question regarding MMR
(For some reason I can't post in the Q&A section, so if someone could kindly move this, thank you)
We all know skill-based matchmaking is coming at some point. Now my question is:
Does the algorithm for it take things like slugging, camping and tunneling into account?
Comments
Likely yes
Probably as much as emblem system does. I would imagine the only difference will be that the opponent's MMR will now also be taken into consideration before awarding/deducting elo.
Nobody knows and the devs won't tell you. Because let's face it, if people knew what to do to get easier matches, they would do it non stop.
My suspicion is that the skill calculation will be super, super simple and not take stuff like that into account, but we don't know for sure how it works.
any information we learn about MMR will end up exploited by people in some fashion, so we won't get any.
Hear @Tsulan.
We have no idea how the system works. Most ELO-based systems operate on an outcome basis only and do not take into account match details.
Outcome basis is hard to determine during a 4vs1. The guy that avoided the killer all match, didn´t touch gens but escaped through the hatch and ended with 11k points. Did he win? Or that other guy that repaired 3 gens, got 5 unhooks and looped the killer for 5 minutes but died during the EGC. Did he lose?
Yep, that's why they're taking a long time to fine-tune those decisions.
The last 24h test looked promising. I had nice (not total sweatfest) matches both as killer and survivor. So i´m looking forward to the release.
If it takes them a little longer to fine-tune this, i don´t mind. But i hope it releases with the next chapter.
I had a similar experience during the test. I do hope too it'll come with the next chapter.
I doubt it because skill-based matchmaking has never worked.
Indeed, I had much fairer matches as Killer and Survivor. :D
That’s the issue. Dbd has no win condition
The problem is we dont know what the devs even aim for, so a balanced game to me might be different from a balanced game for them.
For example, i would like a game where the other survivors are at my skill level, and the killer as well, so there its open (and a little dependend on luck maybe) how the game goes. Neither a 4k nor a 0k is forseable, anything possible. My definition of balance.
However, the devs aim at a 2k 2 escape as balance for this game. That could easily be achived by matchmaking, by putting 2 survivors with higher skill level than the killer that can easily outplay him and 2 with lower skill level in one game. Again, it depends on luck, who the killer catches first, but if 2 survivors can outplay him alone, while he gets the other 2 time and again, 2e and 2k can easily happen.
This occured to me at the last test, because the second scenario was one i had several times.
Except in the case of lowering MMR, they are giving their opponents easier trials as well by essentially nerfing themselves in order to not increase their score.
I wonder what it would actually be like if the system worked properly and the Devs were transparent...
Well, i mean we can tell from the emblem system and certain perks what the game can tell apart in terms of match-events.
In the best case we'd have people that camp and tunnel (which the game can tell) only ever having to get up against people that excel in looping and juking until they change for the better.
It does, the emblem system, it's just not telegraphed in the tutorials for new players.
In that case is legion better than plague? He can pip more consistently so he must be better right?
Knowing what to do to get easier enemies doesn´t mean they nerf themselves. For example, the system could check failed skill checks. So you fail them on purpose but are otherwise untouchable, because you know how to loop the killer.
Or you could let yourself get downed in 10 seconds on the first hook. So the system thinks you are bad. But from there on you won´t go on the hook again.
A transparent system would be abused.
I didn't say it was good or fair, just that it exists. That's why I appreciate the time devs are taking to fine-tune the system.
And dataminers are probably going to expose how the system works anyway, which is why it would be better for it to be transparent because at least then we won't have an uproar in 18 months about how the system basically does nothing but kills/ecapes tracking and the Devs only hid it to be lazy.
I think the crux of the matter is "at some point". We've had killers locked into the lobby unable to change due to MMR for yonks now and no sign of when it'll be implemented. BHVR, if you're not going to give us the benefits of the MMR then revert the penalty!
