How do you rate information perks?
I keep seeing people say BBQ is OP and Object is OP, but why? A bit of a rhetorical question since we all know Object had to get changed, and BBQ is the best information perk for killer. The next best thing to Object would probably be Dark Sense, and the next best thing for BBQ would be, idk, Hangman's? But those perks are considered garbage, even though they're only a bit worse than the best info perks.
I don't think information is as important to survivors as it is to killer. Because of how selfish/nooby solos act, yes you'll probably NEED to run Kindred, and I personally run Spine Chill on all my survivors. But you can do well enough with survivor without that information. As killer, you're starved for information unless you bring 1 or 2 info perks.
Everyone except me hates BBQ because the killer can see where you are across the map, but what does that matter? If he goes to you, he's not camping and not pressuring the people on the other gens. The perk promotes healthy gameplay, and if you want to counter it, jump in a locker, hide behind the gen's aura, or be close to the killer when he hooks the person.
Object is not that bad in solo, because only 1 survivor is getting that information of where the killer is the entire match. But in SWF it's absolutely game breaking because all 4 players will know where the killer is off of 1 teammate having the perk on. There's no way to stop the survivor from seeing your aura unless you're chasing them or you're undetectable, but even then Object will still light up if they're staring in your direction.
Spine Chill, like how I use it, counters stealth killers, killers who use Tinkerer, and killer in general, because it tells you when the killer is looking your way. Killers can play around this by not looking towards the survivors as they're getting closer to them. Some people have said Spine Chill is OP and that undetectable should overrule it, but I don't agree.
Hangman's, because it was nerfed so hard from the 'OP' iteration in the ptb where it was first changed, doesn't do much. If a survivor isn't near a hook, you don't see their aura. You also have to spend time looking around as you're carrying the survivor, which is different from BBQ where you can see them as you're already moving away from the hook. To get use out of this perk, you must also put up an oak offering so there's more hooks. So already this perk is worse in every way than BBQ. If BBQ gets nerfed, this will not be a strong alternative.
Dark Sense is bad because you can't control when it goes off. You see the killer's aura when a gen is completed, meaning you get 5 uses maximum, and it means that if you're on a hook or on the ground, or getting chased by the killer, it really doesn't do much for you. The information you get is redundant, or you just can't capitalize on it.
Then there's perk like Surge, Discordance, Surveillance, Gearhead, Thrilling Tremors, which only tell you when someone's on a gen. And survivor perks like Bond, Aftercare, Kindred, Better Together, tell you where the teammates and killers are, but SWF gets all that for free.
This is why I don't rate information perks very high. They usually either give redundant info or you can't ever capitalize on what info it gives you. It does pay to run Empathy so you can heal teammates more consistently, but the killer could also be chasing that injured person and deny you that healing. It does make sense to run BBQ with Pop so you know what gen to pop, but the survivors could just as easily finish the gen by the time you get there. This is why I'd recommend running at least 1 information perk per build, but don't expect them to always do something for you.

As killer my personal favorite is whispers. Theres no hiding from it and more importantly, it tells me if an area is clear. So i know not to waste time searching it. If bbq didnt have the bp bonus id almost never use it.
