We all get hooked eventually. Button mashing isn’t fun. Camping is a result of stress 99%.
I’ve noticed that while playing survivor, the most exciting parts of the match involve successfully hiding from and evading the killer.
As a killer, the fun is catching survivors and trying to mind game them.
However, the frustration I feel comes from the bad game mechanics present in dead by daylight currently. As many other posts have stated, mashing a button to stay in the match is not fun. Every survivor will be caught eventually, and mashing a key or button is definitely the most annoying part of the match, no, the entire game.
It’s bad enough that loading times on console are dreadful, and you can’t begin matchmaking for another game from the death screen. A lot of time is spent loading, and it’s really making people frustrated that they waited for a match that they died in almost immediately.
And for the killer, there’s nothing more stress inducing than wanting to leave a hook, but seeing scratch marks on the ground or seeing a survivor nearby when hooking a victim, and knowing if you leave the hook to try and stop gen progression, that effort will have been for next to nothing, as they will be saved, and you have to strike one of three of those loopers twice before you can actually hinder their progress.
Sure the survivor lost one of their two lives essentially, but still when you’re playing a group of loopers, it just doesn’t feel worth the amount of effort needed when there is one generator remaining.
Mashing a button to stay in a match is completely unnecessary, the more tedious the experience is, the more toxic the user will likely be towards the opposition.
Same goes for the killer, when we have a bad match, and we are really frustrated, T-bagging can really become the light that sets the fuse ablaze. Not everyone, no. But no one should have to learn to ignore everything hindering their experience just to try and enjoy the game.
You shouldnt have to try to enjoy a video game, that’s flawed design. Survivors need a little bit of downtime when they are on the hook, not to get more mad at how annoying it is to button mash just to stay in a match, when they may not even be saved. That’s around 30 seconds of free long term arthritis build up.
Something needs to be done to keep the flow going.
