Suggestion for a new gate opening mechanic
Suggestion: once survivors start opening the gates, they can either fully open the gates and start the endgame collapse or leave it and let the gates progression slowly regress with time.
Reasoning: endgame collapse is added in order to "pressure the lingering survivors", however, right now with survivors opening the gates 99% and then going for the saves, this mechanic puts almost no pressure on them whatsoever (especially if the killer is facing a 4-friends party).
When the gens are finished and the gates are 99% but not open, the survivors can initiate chases and heal multiple times without any penalty until as many people as possible are saved. With 0-1 kills, killers are sometimes forced to camp the hooked survs after gens are done - which is highly unfun for both sides, but what else can they do in order to get a kill? They have no other objectives and the gate progression can't be reversed. Once the gates are 99% there's no point in trying to stop the running survivors from escaping if they are close to the switcher.
There might be some downsides and this mechanic might turn out very unfair to the survs, so I don't claim it to be correct at all. But I am pretty sure that currently, endgame collapse is very weak and doesn't really pressure the lingering survivors as it's intended to. Many survivors only use it to troll the killers and stand in the gates until the time runs out/they are pushed out. So perhaps there's some room for improvement?
