Winning by default

Hardly anyone talks about how a lot of time in this game is spent winning by default.

Winning by default: when the match reaches a point where it heavily favors one side, but it drags on long after the tipping point. Inevitably ending in a way that could’ve been predicted long before.

For Killers, things like:

  1. An early 1v3 before enough gens have been completed to counteract the pressure.
  2. Snowballing slugs to the point where even unbreakables just delay the inevitable.
  3. A nasty three gen where the Killer just patrols and the Survivors keep trying to bait them to chase away from the gens unsuccessfully.
  4. Ridiculously good add-ons on a Killer player that can abuse them.
  5. A Hex lasts so long that its value has swayed the match to the point where cleansing it doesn’t make a difference.

For Survivor:

  1. The map is heavily Survivor sided or it’s extremely incompatible with the Killer being played.
  2. The gen speeds heavily outpace the Killer’s chases to the point where it isn’t possible for them to down fast enough.
  3. The items/perks in the match heavily counterplay the Killer to the point where they lose too much value to win.
  4. The Survivors coordination removes the potential for strong map pressure/snowballing. They play split up, get pallet/flash saves and know exactly what is happening across the map. Usually a SWF or extremely high skill.

I’m sure there are more examples. But the easiest way to tell you’re winning by default is when the match feels “boring” and predetermined for one side.
