The Obsession Mechanic Needs To Be Reworked Because Of DS

Even if it's something as simple as there always being an obsession regardless of if someone has an obsession perk or not, the obsession mechanic needs a changed. Right now the killer goes in with 1 of 2 mindsets: "Oh, there's no obsession, so there's no Decisive Strike. Time to tunnel!" or "Oh, there's an obsession, therefore I have to assume Decisive Strike on every single survivor." It's way too drastic of a difference whether or not there's an obsession. The game is literally played like a different game.

DS being 60 seconds and not deactivating for any reason except using it or missing it was a dumb design to begin with. Because of this ridiculously generous time limit, survivors are getting off hooks to rush gens or unhook other survivors while also benefitting from a perk that's supposed to protect them against tunneling, meanwhile the killer clearly wasn't tunneling but gets punished by it anyway. It is a defensive perk that's been weaponized. The DS change can't come soon enough.

Now that DS isn't going to be abusable less people will run it, which means there will be many matches where there is no obsession. Killers, at least at the lower end of the skill spectrum, will begin tunneling survivors when they see this. Gen rushing has been used to counter camping and tunneling but with no DS, that's less time the killer has to worry about wasting on the survivor they're currently tunneling.

This is another reason why killers should be able to see survivors' individual hook counters just like survivors can, because it's not going to stop killers from tunneling; you're just hurting the players who have a hard time remembering who they've hooked and how many times each.

There's a few obsession perks that are arguably useful besides DS, but come on. Obsession = DS in many killers' eyes. No obsession means they're free to tunnel, and an obsession means they can't risk tunneling. DS is the perk that makes the obsession mechanic actually relevant, at least from the survivor point of view. So I suggest that there be an obsession no matter what, even if there's no obsession perks/add-ons in play. That, combined with the reworked DS, will encourage healthier gameplay from both sides.
