Revisiting and Updating The Nightmare, Freddy Kruger

Let's get through the typically long-winded introduction to these kinds of threads. Majority of people think that Freddy is boring EZ mode baby made killer. He's not interactive and his counter is boring. Let's fix that.

  1. At the beginning of a trial, survivors don't being falling asleep until Freddy hits them. Freddy shouldn't be rewarded for existing. This also ensures that he has to engage in a normal chase with survivors for at least the first time he sees them.
  2. Assign each survivor their own alarm clock. This will ensure there are never two survivors waiting for each other to wake up and allow survivors to plan their pathing ahead if they are asleep.
  3. Survivors cannot passively fall asleep while in a chase. Freddy shouldn't be able to just wait out a survivor who is passively falling asleep.
  4. Reduce the time that failed skill check keep survivors awake to 15 seconds. Each time a survivor does this, 5 seconds are cut off, until the can no longer wake themselves with failed skill checks. Survivors should not have a massive incentive to make a mistake.
  5. Survivors should gain a 1% speed penalty to repairs, healing, cleansing, and sabotage for every 30 seconds they are in the Dream World, up to a maximum of 10%. This will incentivize survivors to use time to wake themselves up more often.
  6. Allow Freddy to teleport to Alarm Clocks once all the generators are completed. Freddy shouldn't lose a huge part of his power during a time he may need it most.
  7. Survivors walking over multiple Dream Snares do not refresh it's timer, however multiple Dream Snares being triggered will multiply the time it takes for a survivor to wake up with an Alarm Clock the next time by two, up to a maximum of 8 times. Why is Freddy allowed to just spam Snares until he can catch up with survivors without a need to reload?

This version of Freddy still maintains his ability to pressure survivors, giving him an increased slow down, while also encouraging more skilled play from Freddy and for survivors to wake up more often.

Lemme know what you think about these changes and what you would personally change. :)

  • Just put him back to how he was. It was fun, unique, and actually more powerful than people made it out to be. The least that needs to happen is:

    1. No more passive falling asleep
    2. No instantaneous incomplete generator teleporting
    3. More than one alarm clock option for survivors
    4. Casting penalty for puddles and fake pallets

While I would much prefer that Freddy was more unique, as he was in his olden days, it's unlikely that the devs will just change his playstyle back to what it was before.

If I were to update his old power, I'd:

    • Reduce the amount of time it take for survivors to be pulled into the Dream World from 7 seconds to 5.
    • Give Freddy Dream Charges (similarly to Pyramid Head's Rites of Judgement) that allow him to pull survivors into the Dream World faster.
    • Allow Freddy to put survivors into a "Deep Sleep" mode by using a Plague's Vile Purge-like beam. Aiming enough Dream Charges on them in a short period will make them completely immobile for 3 seconds. This is his chasing power. Since it has such a strong effect, it will require Freddy to use all of his Dream Charges, which take ~20 seconds to recharge from 0.
    • Survivors can use Alarm Clocks to wake themselves up like they currently do.
    • While carrying a survivor, Freddy manifests in the real world, allowing him to hit survivors who are awake.
    • Remove the 50% action speed penalty while sleeping. Reduced to 1% every 20 seconds to a max of 10%.
    • Remove aura reading on sleeping survivors, add to awake survivors inside the lullaby.
    • Survivors transitioning into the Dream World cannot repair generators, sabotage, heal, or cleanse totems.
