Changing the killers objective

I've been thinking about the toxicity between both killers and survivors and I actually think that the content creators have the correct idea for how to lower toxicity.

Simply making the killer be about getting hooks and not getting kills. That way when you play killer you don't have to slug or tunnel the very experienced swf that escape 1000 matches in a row. The experienced swf would still be happy because they got to play how they want to and the killer feels better about getting 8 hooks and 0 kills. Normally at 8 hooks in red rank you have 2 survivors killed as you had to aim for the non healed survivors that have been hooked already to at least ensure a kill after 3 gens popped in 80 seconds of match time.

Obviously there would still be bully squads but it would reduce the anger both sides feel when killers have to go to extremes to get a 4k.

It reduces the anger on one side. Namely Survivor. Since whatever measures you'd put in place simply reduce camping and tunneling.

Survivors can still T-bag, clicky-clicky, genrush, pallet save, flashlight save, and all that banal stuff considered toxic on their side.

So they can be totally toxic, and Killers cannot do anything as an outlet. Sounds healthy.

Yeah but at least an 8 hook 0 kill game would be equivalent to an 8 hook 2k game.

I mean I've been playing killer and survivor sense the game released and have been rank 1 every single month, but killers have never had an outlet in my opinion at least if hooks were the objective killers could still feel like they did well against bully squads.

If a team of survivors completely demolishes you (which happens more and more after each update lately) but you got 8 hooks and no kills they are still gonna say "gg ez, baby killer, no kills garbage" but if you get 8 hooks and 2 kills it's a tie. Even though both take the same amount of hooks.

So all I'm saying is there would be less trash talk because the idea of the game would just be playing out a slasher movie. When people get captured in slasher movies they usually escape so the point from killer side would turn from kill at all costs to hook and have fun. This would make the game more fun and make the ranks more diverse because some red rank killers simply cannot get 12 hooks each game while others can.

  • I simply cannot see how that would change anything.

You can't change someone's mentality, and if you remove killing in a game, we would have to re-balance pretty much everything.

Not removing killer, literally just what Otz and Tru3 had a long conversation about. At the end of the day changing the main objective to hooks and kills being a secondary objective makes the game less toxic.

  • While I agree that overall it would be a healthier direction for the game, it would also need a whole rework of one of the foundations the game is built on. Not to say it wouldn't be worth doing, it's just a very big change, even if a certain version was agreed on.

The survivors just never dying period would also suck a lot of the satisfaction from the killer side for "winning". So it would have to be a system like, no one dies from getting hooked 3 times, but if the killer gets X hooks then all the survivors get sacrificed instantly. Something along those lines would probably be better overall imo and something I've purposed before.

So if the killer got lets say 10 hooks (or w.e.), the EGC entity animation would activate on everybody and the hooked survivor(s) get sacrificed as usual. 4 hooked at once would also end the match as well. You could also do something like, 6 hooks, first 2 survivors out escape and the last 2 get sacrificed to also make the endgame a competition for survival and potentially solve the 99% gate issue since survivors will want out.

In this theoretical system, things like camping and tunneling would also naturally be pushed away since you can't kill the 1 survivor anymore and you need hooks ASAP as opposed to the current need of a kill ASAP.

Just throwing ideas around but at the end of the day this would be work, and really not likely of happening. Especially with the slowness and reluctance of changing/working on minor things, let alone something core to the game at large, that the dev team has shown. You'd need to get essentially the whole community on board and essentially yelling at the devs, since that's apparently the only way to get them to maybe potentially listen.

  • Deathgarden had it good: You could literally continuously Mercy someone to keep the game going, and the survivor team still knows the fact that they are utterly being crushed without the killer getting any kills.

on top of this, you couldnt slug because a runner could eventually get up if they found a health pack and you can't tunnel because the runners teleport to a different part of the map when the killer performs the equivalent of a "hook"

I could go on, but this is DBD and it's all I have left.
