Can't finish interaction with red glyph

I was playing the Cannibal the other day on Midwich Elementary, and I found a red rift.

I tried to interact with it, but the progress would start and stop in almost the same instant, making it impossible to finish the interaction.

I tried holding and tapping, put neither works. I came back at near the end and still couldn't finish the interaction.
