Allow discussion of bugs and technical issues on steam forums

It's not fair that currently all talk of bugs, technical issues, etc.... is banned on the steam forums. If you mention any of it the mod swoops in and locks everything on people.

The problem is they do it because they insist people open bug reports here and such; which would be fine except not everyone has or wants to make a forum account here- but some of us have one and can do that. However since we can't TALK about any of it, we're unable to coordinate that at all.

There is no bug section on the steam forums anymore, they removed it because well....they were not using it anyways.

Also; we need to discuss a topic because we need community assistance in locating all the occurrences of a particular common glitch since the new update- However since any and all discussion on the matter is IMMEDIATELY silenced, they have effectively made that impossible.

There is being organized, and then there is just moving into plain censorship- could we please stop enforcing arbitrary rules in an unnecessary manner.

Thank you.

  • Here is another example. Someone is having a technical issue I KNOW how to solve.

They locked the thread and told them they had to come here instead...they are not doing that. I had to add them on steam, wait for them to accept, and finally talk to them that way to find that out and to actually resolve their issue. Had they not accepted my request; they might have just....never bothered to fix it and never play the game again.

All that because of unnecessary restrictions.

  • This decision was made consciously to avoid the stress of having to go back and forth by the dev and moderator team. You do this each time and it turns out, it was already reported here possibly, this is still time wasted nonetheless. This is why we closed the bug-reports and technical issues. It makes easier for both teams and is much cleaner than having the teams go back and forth for the same things. It is essential time that's otherwise time spent going back and forth possibly to find the same bug reports and issues on the other platform.

You have to keep in mind, QA still needs time to figure out those issues and what's going, it is also time we as a moderation team lose that could be spent somewhere else. We decided, considering the time both teams had to spend going back and forth, that it was for the best to move it all to the official forum.

There is no censorship or whatsoever - it has been communicated the very moment the decision was made and there is even a pinned post about it that explains it has been moved. https://steamcommunity.com/app/381210/discussions/0/1638675549021920270/

Here is the announcement when the Forum was officially announced and that everything regarding support is being moved on there: https://steamcommunity.com/app/381210/discussions/0/1640915206466079672/

It is highly unlikely that this will change, as we didn't make this decision on a whim. It wasn't a easy one, as we are aware of the fact many used the Steam Forum for it, but the Steam Forum is also restrictive - it only allows Steam players to report issues and bugs. Asking non Steam Players to buy anything worth 5$ at least was not feasible. A lot of people didn't get the chance to report their issues, because they had to make a Steam account and to be able to post on Community Hubs, buy something for at least 5$.

This is why we made the decision to move everything to the official forums.

and there is nothing wrong with doing that; however banning literally any discussion of anything possibly related to them when there is literally no other available outlet is ridiculous. Just because moderation doesn't want to moderate something; doesn't mean everyone else should just be barred from discussion over it.

Also your comment about steam entirely misses the point. It's not about those other options not existing; if people have to come here to actually report a bug or the likes that is totally 100% understandable, and a tighter use of resources. That is not a problem.

Locking any and all forms of discussion however; especially when it's unnecessary to do so just because there was so much a mention of a bug or someone asking the community for help with something- is another thing entirely.

It's being done to a point of censorship, since you effectively won't let anyone discuss anything. We can't even talk about trying to figure something out, because it will be locked; and told to be posted as a bug report here. Thing is, we can't because we need to talk and work together to actually figure it out to do the reports- but you won't allow discussion- and if we try and have a discussion over here, on these forums, and in the bug report section then no discussion will ever be had and you know that.

I don't know if this was just an oversight and stubbornness; or just an intentional means of censoring out anything that might bring light to any kind of bugs/technical issues that DBD may have to the public.

You don't need a curated bug report section where you have to move all the bug reports and whatever else to these forums or anything that takes that much resources; but you SHOULD have a space where people are allowed to at least discuss or help each other with things without being shut down entirely; that isn't railroaded to registering somewhere else.

But it is not censorship like you claim it is - you say people "just" want to suggest them, but no. I lock a lot of these threads when I see them. The threads you speak of are almost always bug reports and technical issues being reported. The literal things described in the link here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/381210/discussions/0/1638675549021920270/

What you are suggesting is essentially suggesting to have bug and tech reports on there again - because that's what the result will be and then we're back to the teams having to spend time and energy on something that's much easier in one place. Discussion about (current) bugs is essentially reporting them. If you experience a bug in the game... then you can easily report it here. You can have discussions in the bug reporting section here. I'd advise you to take a peak in our bug-reporting sub-forum, as you can easily see people do comment on the threads and see if they can figure out repro steps, too. https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/bugs

Again you are trying to dodge the point; and accuse me of something entirely different that does have merit to do so. If the plan is stubborness at the cost of the community; than so be it I guess it cannot be helped.

I am aware that those things exist here, and that is great- but literally shutting down any and all discussion of anything related to bugs, technical issues, or other things is just too much. It's not putting things in a correct section because these forums are entirely different from the steam forums; it's entirely severing communication.

I've said my piece; if you chose the route of locking people out of outright discussion then it can't be helped- but that doesn't mean it's okay.

It's not censorship, not yet; but it's the first step towards that kind of setting. If you want to pursue that direction, that is unfortunate; but I've at least explained the problems therin.

  • I'll comment one last time, but I don't see the point in us repeating the same things back and fourth.

There is nothing wrong with saying that bug reports and such have to be done over on these forums, that is much more streamline and absolutely makes sense, as bug reports on the steam forums were just going into the bin basically.

However; someone asking someone if they have seen ____ thing happen or if there is something on this map and trying to just talk about something before even acknowledging if it's a bug or topics like that to be immediately locked and shut down, with them being told to report something on an entirely different forum/website before anyone was even allowed to talk for 5 seconds; is not.

That is all I wanted to say. If nothing can or will be done going forward, that is unfortunate; but I've said what I wanted to say and thank you for hearing that much out. Do what you will I can't stop you from doing so, but I don't have to approve either.

  • There are many issues and bugs that affect multiple platforms - having the official forum helps us figure that out and see if an issue might affect one or multiple platforms. USers from both conse and PC can report and discuss the issues together. There were many complaints by those people that they don't feel heard by us when it comes to reporting issues.

This platform (official forum) offers all users the ability to report their issues and figure out if some of those are platformwide or just affect one platform. There aren't only Steam players - we have Microsoft Store, Xbox, Playstation, Switch and Stadia. The forum helps players to figure things out together if they are from different platforms and it greatly helps the QA and moderation team when it comes to reporting and looking at those bugs.

Steam Forums remain open for General Discussions, searching for players and for specific language sections. However, bug reports and technical issues, which it's imperative that we are aware of, will continue to be posted on the Official Forums only.

I will be locking the thread then - it has been explained multiple times before and now too. It is a decision that was made for multiple reasons and not one that was made easily.
