What is the new cosmetics glitch?

I go on the forums and see it says "We've noticed some of you had some new clothes in your closet. These items will be removed soon". What does this mean?

    We got those cosmetics by accident.

    Cosmetics appeared one day in some people's inventories that they aren't supposed to have.

    They're removing them soon.

    Everyone was given exclusive items, such as a shirt for Dwight that you could only get from a tournament. You can use these items, it is not bannable. They will be removed in an upcoming patch.

    spaghetti code strikes back. Somehow, without changing anything related to skins, every player got exclusive skins in the inventory.

    Could have been caused by an attempt to give out the some / all of the items to specific accounts, such as giving the dev shirt to new devs who didn't have it yet. Then after the patch whatever was responsible for giving the items out to only specific accounts gave it to everyone.

    Assuming strikes again. You don’t know how it was caused and you don’t know if they changed something related to skins in the backend. Maybe they are working on a way to make the accounts and their earned cosmetics more robust
