No Blither for No Mither: A Suggestion
It’s time to talk about the meme, the legend, the OP perk if only it worked: No MIther.
No Mither
You are affected by the Broken Status Effect for the duration of the Trial. Your thick blood coagulates practically instantly:
- You do not leave Pools of Blood
- Grunts of Pain caused by injuries are reduced by 0/25/50 % at any time.
- Grants the ability to fully recover from the Dying State
Before talking changes, let’s go over what the character and flavor of David King and his kit are sold as. David King is a brawling hooligan, whose scrappy, can take a hit and who looks out for his mates. His perks, We’re Going to Live Forever, Dead Hard and No Mither look to flesh that out, by giving users of the perks incentives to; take hits/rescue others; make risky, but high reward plays; give an incentive to the killer to chase you and a way out.
While many look at the constant broken status as a downside, the broken status lets a survivor single him/herself out immediately so the rest of the survivors can work/escape while the No MIther user is chased. The problem with No Mither isn’t that it gives you only one health state to play with, it’s that the permanent loss of this health state isn’t paid back by the perk, except in the occasional slugfest. More often than not, the killer will pick you up, knowing that if he doesn’t, you’ll simply get back up. However, most killers would do this anyway (under most circumstances), defeating the purpose of the perk: give an incentive to the killer to chase you and a way out.
Keeping that in mind, the following would be in-line with the purpose/theme of the perk, without pushing it into nonsense territory.
No Mither
You are affected by the Broken Status Effect for the duration of the Trial. Your thick blood coagulates practically instantly:
- You do not leave Pools of Blood
- Grunts of Pain caused by injuries are reduced by 0/25/50 % at any time.
- Your Wiggle out of Grasp speed is 10/15/20% faster.
- Your Wiggle out of Grasp time is reduced by 5/7/10% after taking a protection hit.
- Grants the ability to fully recover from the Dying State
This one change puts the perk on par with Break-Out. While the change doesn’t give the No Mither user a guaranteed out (nor should it), it does provide an out that can be met with modest regularity. With just the WooG speed increase, a killer can only carry you for just under 13 seconds and after taking a protection hit, your time is reduced by 1.6. This puts the No MIther user at almost 11 seconds until they break free.
Now, while it can (and will) be said that this isn’t going to make the perk insanely strong, as anytime a killer is directly near a hook it cancels out the perk, No Mither users can work around this by playing around hook distance. While it will not always work, I know many of us have had that experience of almost getting away if we just had another 2-3 seconds. No Mither, with this change, goes from being a fairly useless/meme perk, to one where several legitimate builds/playstyles can be built around:
Mettle of Man, Flip-Flop, Break-out, No Mither (Aggressive Savior)
Resilience, Spine Chill, Dead Hard, No Mither (M1 Rush)
Break-out, Sabotage, Spine Chill, No Mither (Harass the Killer)
Comments
(Minor thing but from the subject line I think you might be pronouncing the word wrong, Mither is pronounced with a long i as in "Miser" or "Wider".)
Additional change, which I think would be fairly warranted:
You begin the trial healthy. After recovering yourself from the dying state or taking three protection hits you become broken for the remainder of the trial.
I believe that it can actually be pronounced either way.
I specifically didn't put the additional health state in there because No MIther is supposed to out a target on your back, so the killer has a reason to chase you at the beginning.
I feel with the change it would be a viable choice for builds, if only because smart looping and chasing can force the killer to slug you because you're too far from a hook.
Hmm, I checked a few dictionaries and the pronunciation keys are all with the long i sound. Who knows though?
Anyway in case anybody's curious
I know you did not come in here to argue about how Mither is pronounced............
I didn’t come in to argue at all.
