Why no keyboard and mouse for consoles?

Why can people on PC use Keyboard and Mouse and controller, but people on consoles can't? I.e. a friend of mine has quit DBD on his X-box, because he can't use his keyboard in DBD so he cant play his mains against crossplay survivors. And if he turns crossplay off the pool of players is waaaaay smaller so he needs to wait longer than usual.

I know not every console supports keyboards and mouse, but i.e. the X-box does, so why shouldn't we be able to use it?

    Seems reasonable, enable it for cross-play players but block it for non-cross-play players, that would be nice.

    Thats exatly what they have on Paladins and it works great
