What happened to the old pallet breaking animation?

I know this is very specific, it's been years, and nobody probably cares anymore but the old kick animation used to look a lot better in my opinion. Rather than just lightly sorta tap the pallet in first person it really looked like they STOMPED at it.

I kinda just wonder why it was ever changed at all.
