The crowns should be separate from the head slot.
It makes seance, with how they where designed. The hole cosmetic piece is the floating crown. So just add a another slot to equip it separably from whatever is in the head slot. Full Hollowed Blight or Legacy would combo beautifully, and it opens up more customization in general.

It would also allow them on licensed characters if they worked that way.
I agree, I've spent a good amount of money on cosmetics for original characters, and it would be nice to add the crown.
