Midgame Collapse | Resolving Problems

Prologue

We have been have been there:

You are one of the last two survivors remaining and attempting to fix a generator. You end up getting caught just to see your buddy camping the hatch, which makes you frustrated because that survivor literally did nothing to deserve an escape.

You are playing as the killer, and survivors are terrified of touching a generator because they know you will sacrifice them. This is also frustrating because you have to search the entire map and waste a lot of time to hopefully, by some chance, find a survivor.

These situations are awful, so how do we solve this problem?

Introducing: The Midgame Collapse

The Midgame Collapse (MGC) is a new mechanic that awards the best survivor with great, not guaranteed, odds of survival and for the killer, prevents both survivor from wasting unnecessary amounts of time.

Necessary Hatch Changes:

  • Hatch will only spawn in when there's one survivor remaining or all generators have been completed.

Activation Requirements:

  • Two survivors remaining
  • 2 minutes have elapsed without a generator powering on (this timer pauses when a survivor is repairing a generator).

Once the MGC activates, a two minute timer that's exactly like the EGC will appear at the top of the screen (same rules as the EGC timer).

Participation Points:

Performing altruistic actions and making repairs give you participation points. You cannot see how many participation points you have.

Repairing a generator: 100 Points (Repairing a portion of a generator gives you points propionate to how much you repaired)

Being chased: 1 Point / Sec

(You must be in a 15+ second chase for the points to get added)

Teammate Dies: -50 Points (to the last survivor) & MGC timer immediately expires. If the survivor kills themself, you won't receive the point penalty.

Once the MGC timer expires, the Entity will decide who dies based off the remaining survivors' participation points. If there's a draw, the Entity will pick a random survivor to die.

The survivor who dies will receive 500 BP "Entity's Judgment" and the survivor who survives will receive 1,000 BP "Entity's Judgment".

After the sacrifice animation completes, both Exit Gates are automatically powered on and the EGC begins. However, this time, the hatch has spawned in (opened) and the survivor is given more freedom as to what they can use to escape (hatch or exit gates).

Epilogue

Numbers are obviously just placeholders and can be changed later to balance things out. However, other than that, you seen my idea for a MGC โ€” tell me your thoughts! ๐Ÿ˜

  • I would like this idea, if the fundamental game itself wasn't so busted.

The issue is, both sides rely on snowballing. And if one side doesn't get going, its hard for the other to come back. A killer can bounce back, but survivors? How can you bounce back from two dead and three gens remaining unless you uber stealth? It also acts as free info to the Killer during the collapse itself, as beginning repairs on a gen slows it down.

It think it would be better if we just rework the sacrifice mechanic altogether. I address that here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/138783/addressing-all-current-concerns-with-these-changes#latest

I think you commented on my last thread discussing a rework of the Sacrifice mechanic.

Working on a generator doesn't slow the MGC down, only the time it takes for it to activate (no one sees the amount of time remaining until the MGC activates).

The only thing that slows the MGC down is a downed or hooked survivor. ๐Ÿ˜

Yes, I commented on your thread and shared it with other Trusted Members, most of them liked the idea but isn't something we can see the developers doing (it's too much work). To be clear, Trusted Members don't have a bigger influence on balance, I just thought it would be something worth discussing with them! We could share it with them, but that doesn't mean it will be added, we are treated like regular members! The developers don't play favorites as most the of community likes to think they do! ๐Ÿ˜
