Map Selection for Match Making (Detailed Suggestion)

One of the main problems of Dead by Daylight is managing the matchmaking balance between, wait times, closely skilled players, and good ping. However If matchmaking is so boring, why not make matchmaking more fun and intuitive for both the killers and survivors. I have 1 large suggestion. You could make map selection a fun game-play mechanic. There are many ways you could do this, but this is how I would implement it.

  • When 3 survivors appear in a the killer's lobby, A timer starts to count down. 2 maps are randomly generated, and the killer / survivors vote separately from each other. (as in the survivors can't see the the killers vote, and the killer can't see the survivors vote) After all players have voted, the map is chosen, then the killers / survivors get to see the results of each others vote, and who voted for what map. (The map is chosen randomly between the two maps if the votes cancel each other out) Then another timer count's down, giving both the survivor and the killer enough time to prepare for the map.

This would make the main game-play more dynamic. Allowing survivors and the killer to build perk load-outs based on the map they are playing. Rather then having to create jack of all trades load-out due to not knowing the map they will play on. Though there are few problems with this idea. Questions of

  1. How much are a Single Survivor's and the Killer's vote worth?
  2. What happens if someone DC's during Matchmaking?
  3. How would Map offerings effect this system?
  4. How to deal with lobby dodging for maps?

So I have a few more suggestions of how these questions could be answered.

Answer 1: Here's is an easy point system for voting.

  • A Killer's Vote is worth 1.5 points.
  • A Survivors vote is worth .5 points.

This could create an imbalance if all 4 survivors vote for the same map or if 1 survivor votes with the killer. So we need a few more precautions.

  • A Survivor team's vote at maximum is worth 1.5 points for a single map.
  • Any Survivor Vote that chooses the map the killer did. Doesn't count to the total.

Answer 2: I don't have a good answer for this. I say if three survivors already voted. Let the vote stand, and map preparation begins when another survivor joins; If that's not the case, restart the map voting process with the same maps.

Answer 3: Map offerings should either be removed, or be available to use during the match making process, randomly replacing one of the two randomly generated maps. However

  • To prevent spam, the survivor team and the killer can only use one map offering per game. (You'll have to create a system for survivors to vote for a single map offerings.)
  • You'll have to add more time to the timer, and restart the vote so the killer and survivors can't screw each other over by adding a map offering last second during the vote.

Answer 4: Simply offer a punishment to those who lobby dodge a majority of the matches they join. This should be easier to track with dedicated servers.

That's all for my idea, I hope you on the DBD Development team take the time to consider it. I think it would make game-play much more exciting and dynamic. For everyone else, I would like to hear your thoughts / criticism.
