Legion - Secondary Ability Idea

So the Legion has been getting some love from the devs lately with all the changes, but the core issue is still there, Legion doesn't have any chase potential. Even the Plague, the closest example: after infecting all 4 survivors, she has a potential Corrupt Purge. Legion? well you can stab them again and take a massive stun for doing so.

How can we solve this? Well, we are all familiar with the fact that The Legion has an ability to vault pallets during Frenzy. It's a nice anti-loop mechanic and has a lot of potential. But. It is attached to the Feral Frenzy, which renders the entire anti-loop concept useless. Legion is in a very tricky spot where even a little over the top change can make them break the game again, so we would have to be careful when adding something.

However. I came up with the solution that helps The Legion struggle much less at loops, especially the safe one.

For that 'The Legion can vault pallets, but cannot break them.' is reworded to 'The Legion can fast-vault pallets, but cannot break them.'

-------------------------------------------

While using Feral Frenzy:

  • The Legion gains 1 token every 25% of the power up to 2 tokens.

While not using Feral Frenzy:

  • Press Active Ability button while standing near a dropped pallet to perform a slow-vault action (1.35s). Doing so consumes 1 token.
  • Press Active Ability button after moving towards a dropped pallet to perform a medium-vault action (1.1s). Doing so consumes 2 tokens. (The Vault action appears before you bump into the pallet, if you do, the medium-vault action is replaced with the slow-vault action.)
  • The Legion is unable to use their Basic Attack for 0.10s after performing a slow-vault action.
  • The Legion is unable to use their Basic Attack for 0.35s after performing a medium-vault action.
  • (This was made so The Legion could use a faster vault speed without being a total threat for the survivors as the total vault time would be 1.45s)

-------------------------------------------

So now let's talk about the potential uses of this power. To begin with, you have to actively use Feral Frenzy if you want to get the most out of it, meaning that even if you Feral Frenzy while in a chase, it still gives the survivor the needed time to get to another loop or to stay on the current one.

You have the choice of either slow-vaulting or medium-vaulting which both can be used in different situations:

  • Slow Vault can be used to mind-game the survivor at the closed loops by doing a pallet double-back.
  • Medium Vault can be used aggressively, to deny strong loops or to pressure the survivor.

A Killer-Survivor interaction. As of right now, The Legion can Frenzy someone and:

  • Commit to the chase as an M1 killer with no power while the survivor has time to get to a safe loop
  • Run away in the search of a survivor in a bad position, which, isnt a bad thing, but this leaves us with no tense interaction between the 2.

Counter-Play. Well, we discussed how to make Legion stronger, now, what about the survivors? is there really nothing they can do? Are they doomed to a no counter-play Legion once again? Well, no.

  • These vault speeds were proven to be extremely safe for survivors and having only 1 or 2 of them doesnt make a difference.
  • To counter The Legion's vault mechanic the survivor can:
  • Use windows or safe loops to make The Legion spend all their tokens forcing The Legion to:
    • a) Use Feral Frenzy which gives you time to get to another loop you find more safe.
    • b) Break the pallet and continue chasing normally, which wouldn't make a difference as it'd be the same as now.
  • Mind-game at the closed loops which can easily make The Legion spend all their tokens on 1 pallet while also leaving you safe for a fair amount of time.
  • Let's not forget that we're living in a world where perks and items exist, Dead Hard, Mettle fo Man (potentially), Borrowed Time, Styptic Agent and others can make The Legion just straight up waste their tokens without getting any value out of them.

Open / Not safe Loops. Well we've talked about safe loops, but what about the weak ones? Well, to begin with, you don't want to stay at these anyways and 1.45s is still quite a bit of time for the survivor to get to a window or another loop and, considering The Legion would have to be near the pallet in order to vault it, you'd have an ability to stun them as in a normal chase.

Now, Let's compare this to some other killers who are way more lethal to see if this change will actually make The Legion stronger:

  • On Paper, every ~6-10s (3-4s of fatigue plus the time you spend if FF after Frenzy after getting the 2nd token.), you have 1-2 tokens which give you a loop advantage and puts survivor in danger, but, they can, however, do something about it in many different ways.
  • The Nurse, blinks through solid objects putting the survivor once again in danger, but, if you're better, makes her wait for her blinks to recharge, giving you the needed distance.
  • The Spirit, every 10s has an ability to go invisible on the survivors' side putting them in danger of unknowing where is she.
    • These 2 powers, Spencer's Last Breath and Yamaoka's Haunting were proven to be insanely strong in the right hands and insanely weak in the hands of those who don't know how to use the power correctly. And as you can see The Legion's pallet vault shares the same concept of having a huge limited power that makes the survivor think fast or go down, do i think that this change brings the Legion to A/A+/S tiers? No, but it will certainly increase the skill cap of the killer making them much stronger at chasing if you know what you're doing with this ability than they are right now.

How fun would it be to play? If The Legion would get a mechanic like this, the gameplay would change drastically.

  • Playing as and against them would be more more dynamic and fluid than it is right now, which, in my opinion is pretty huge for a small change like allowing them to vault pallets.
  • People wouldn't be left mending for an entire match as The Legion would be able to try and outplay them even on the safe pallets.

This also brings us to the fact that The Legion is a game-knowledge based killer (NOT the original one, but the current one) as you have to do everything properly and watch out for everything or surffer the penalties. Which makes this power not braindead as the 2.4.0 Legion since you would have to think 'Can I vault this pallet?', 'Where can the survivor go if i do?', 'Are there other loops nearby?' etc.

To sum this up, I think that a small change like allowing The Legion to vault pallets without the Feral Frenzy needed would make The Killer much more fun to play as and against. But these are just my thoughts and im open for a discussion.

  • omg the formatting broke drastically screams

    okay i fixed it :^)

  • I mean,why?

For me it is better just to break them while playing legion. Now that I see any means necessary being used often I would never vault a pallet as legion.

Also, imo he doesn't need a buff. Now that new builds come into play like stbfl, pwyf, pop and thanatofobia I believe, legion starts to get stronger. For me,this is unnecessary. I wouldn't mind being implemented tho.

Quick side note, there shouldn't be a token system for killer powers, dunno if it's just me :D

The total vault time is beneficial to you as a killer as it cuts 40-ish% of the Pallet break time which can shorten the chase.

It's not exactly a general buff, its more of a chase potential buff, I can admit that Legion in right hands can do magic, but this is aimed more on helping The Legion to shorten the chase, since their main ability is not chase related.

perks like stbfl (can't get stacks from Frenzy, reduced cooldown doesnt help when you down someone), pwyf (constantly Frenzying someone makes you lose stacks instantly, though with Nemesis might be helpful) and thanatophobia (Sloppy butcher can't be applied with Frenzy and Thanatophobia is pretty sad) dont work nearly as much as they used to and my concept focuses more on shortening the chase.

probably just you, i find Token system to be very helpful in situations like this, since without tokens i wouldn't be able to add medium vault and fast vault, neither recharge system.
