[BIG POST] Perk Weights, New Perk System

This is something I mostly made for fun, but I would still like to see it, or something similar, implemented into the game.

The core idea behind this new system is to shift the meta in a way that promotes more creative perk builds. To do this, two things must happen. First, every perk will get a “weight” primarily based on its power and impact on the match. A perk’s weight determines how much space a specific perk takes up in your build. Perks can be weighed from 0 to 4, with an average power perk being 2. In your build, you can only have perks that add to a total weight of 10. This is because the second change will add a 5th perk slot.

For an example, let’s say you have equipped four perks that weigh a total amount of 9. You won’t be able to put a perk that weighs over 1 in your 5th perk slot. If you had four perks that weigh a total of 4, you can equip any perk in the 5th perk slot, but you won’t get any rewards for not using the maximum weight. Finally, if you have 3 perks that weigh a total of 10, you won’t be able to equip anything in the 4th or 5th slot unless the perk had a weight of 0.

Below is a list of every perk in the game and its weight. I’ll have short explanations for some that I think need it.

General Weight Guide:

0 = Enough drawbacks to balance out the positives

1 = Fairly weak or very situational

2 = Useful, but not overwhelming

3 = Strong, and may be overwhelming with many of these perks equipped.

4 = Game changing, may be overwhelming by itself and drastically change the result of a game.

Survivor Perks:

Universal

  • Dark Sense - 1
  • Deja Vu - 1
  • Hope - 1
  • Kindred - 2
  • Lightweight - 2
  • No One Left Behind - 1
  • Plunderer’s Instinct - 2
  • Premonition - 2
  • Resilience - 2
  • Slippery Meat - 1
  • Small Game - 1
  • Spine Chill - 2
  • This Is Not Happening - 1
  • We’ll Make It - 2

Dwight

  • Bond - 2
  • Prove Thyself - 2
  • Leader - 2

Note (Prove Thyself): Two or more survivors working on a generator gives the killer an opportunity to pressure two people at once, giving this perk some risk when used.

Meg

  • Quick & Quiet - 2
  • Sprint Burst - 3
  • Adrenaline - 3

Claudette

  • Empathy - 2
  • Botany Knowledge - 2
  • Self Care - 2

Jake

  • Iron Will - 2
  • Calm Spirit - 2
  • Saboteur - 1

Nea

  • Balanced Landing - 3
  • Urban Evasion - 2
  • Streetwise - 1

Laurie

  • Sole Survivor - 1
  • Object of Obsession - 3
  • Decisive Strike - 4

Note (Decisive Strike): This perk can be very oppressive. Because of this perk, even the existence of an obsession can cause the killer to play in a different way that is often punishing.

Ace

  • Open-Handed - 1
  • Up the Ante - 2
  • Ace in the Hole - 2

Note (Up the Ante): This perk is only good if everyone runs it. However, if they do, this makes it an incredibly useful perk that lets you save yourself more often than not. Still, the chance that it won’t work and its poor effect when fewer people run it keep it at a 2.

Bill

  • Left Behind - 1
  • Borrowed Time - 3
  • Unbreakable - 3

Feng

  • Technician - 1
  • Lithe - 3
  • Alert - 2

  • Predator - 1
  • Bloodhound - 1
  • Shadowborn - 1

Hillbilly

  • Enduring - 3

Note (Lightborn): Since Lightborn almost completely invalidates an item in almost every scenario, weighing it at 1 would not be justified.

  • Save the Best for Last - 3
  • Play With Your Food - 2

Nightmare

  • Fire Up - 2
  • Remember Me - 2
  • Blood Warden - 2

Pig

  • Hangman’s Trick - 2
