Will DBD...

Will dead by daylight or dead by daylight 2 be coming to next gen consoles and if so how will that look? Minecraft, Destiny, and GTA 5 did something weird where they technically existed on both consoles and about a year into not having any content you basically had to upgrade or you weren't getting any new gameplay.

With this new concept of "games as a service and not as a product" I worry that DBD might not carry over in a traditional sense. This is the same fear that I'm thinking is going to happen with overwatch 2.

If it does end up being that DBD continues to grow and expand could we keep the stuff we already have and just upgrade it for the next console? I've always hated it when developers released their next iteration of a game and then they strip out a TON of fan favorites just to add them back in later as DLC or worse case scenario not at all. many fighting games do this.

it would also be nice if instead of buying the new game and only getting the same stuff we got an actual new game or a discount for owning the older game and our accounts transferred straight over.

Even if the game is completely redesigned from the ground up and turned into something no one would have ever expected... I don't think that it would be the same game at that point and that would honestly cause issues with the parent company trying to balance between their first child and their newest child. I would argue no one wants that.

  • I mean, bhvr is a small development company. They could potentially create their own engine and fix all the potential issues their game has, but the budget and time this would take are big. Might just be best to give next gen consoles (and pc) more optimization and graphics options.

sure. I get that, but it is stressful knowing that in theory a game like DbD could continue to release content and live for a long time (like league of legends which has lived for over 10 years) but then also know that since it's a console game and not a pc game ALONG with the fact that technically every new iteration could require licensing depending on how the initial contract for paid content was written and agreed to...

as a fan of the initial concept due to the simplicity and ease of access as well as the thematics and quality (because let's be honest - it's not that bad) it pains me to think about what comes next with ps5 and xbox next around the corner.
