I might have a solution to the "No PTB on consoles"

I have absolutely no idea about how PTB's work so don't judge me

We know that you guys can add/remove things from the Main Menu, so why not make a location on the menu called "Player Test Build" that is locked until the PTB is active, in which everyone gets a maintenance update or just an update in general allowing them to play the PTB on console or PC WITHOUT an external download for it

Like pre-mentioned I have absolutely no idea how the PTB works or if this is even possible or could lead to leak issues

  • I'd love to see the PTB on consoles, since it only gets tested on a PC platform, but does anyone test those same things on console before it hits? If they added it to console as well, something like a Add-on that only works during PTB phases, then we could possibly see less bugs

Less bugs and would let us test sensitivity dependent killers like Demogorgon and Oni before release.

  • Every update they make to the game has to be screened and approved by the console platform owners, regardless of what is being changed. I don't believe it's possible to update game files the way they need to for the PTB without a required download.

One of the main reasons that they make the PTB exclusive to PC is because they can roll out small tweaks during the PTB for additional testing without needing to go through the same screening process with Valve. It's a much more flexible setup, which is what they need in a testing environment.

Forcing everyone to download an update for the PTB would also mean doing away with the current opt-in system, which is in place for several reasons, player satisfaction among them. Some people simply aren't interested in trying out new, probably buggy content before its release, and they should have that option.

  • The PTB is a seperate download that changes the gamefiles to a test build. The most likely reason why it's not on console is due to patch verification with M$ and Sony. Steam doesn't give a damn if you break your game and even offers a beta tab to allow users to select different versions of a game.

Bottom line, its because of the platform.
