Chest Rework
Chests are one of the games Secondary Objectives. However because of how unreliable and time consuming they are no one ever bothers to actually use them without perks, and WITH perks they are potentially busted when it comes to things like Keys.
So here is what I proposed. The following changes go together:
- Time to Search a chest is reduced to 8 seconds from 10
- By default there are now 5 chests
- The item pool for chests is always Toolbox, Medkit, Map, Flashlight and Key
- Once an item is taken it is removed from the item pool and cannot be found in any other chests. This overrides other situational modifiers besides perks.
- The basement chest item's rarity is increased by 1 tier after being rolled.
- Items found in chest always have double the charges compared to items brought via your loadout.
- In the event of chest offerings additional Toolboxes, Medkits or Flashlights may be found. Killer chest offerings will remove the Map from the pool and the Purple one will remove the Toolbox.
Situational Modifiers (Highest one takes Priority):
- Opening your first chest grants a green Medkit with Pharmacy (adding a second Medkit to the item pool if the first one was already taken. This is the only situation where this happens). The basement chest has no impact on this perk.
- Items that have already been found in a chest cannot be found again (besides with Pharmacy)
- If you already are holding an item then you are guaranteed to get a different item
- During the Endgame Collapse a Purple or Red Key is guaranteed. The basement chest will always grant a Red key.
- Outside of the Endgame Collapse a Key will always be Green but will have a Token, unique wedding ring (only if there is an Obsession besides you) or Bloody Amber addon. The basement chest will increase the addon rarity instead of the Key rarity. Other items still don't have addons without a perk.
- While injured a Medkit is guaranteed
- If a Survivor is dead and there are still more than 3 generators left to complete a Toolbox is guaranteed
- While all Survivors are alive Toolbox rarity is capped at yellow. The basement chest can still grant a green.
- Event items replace the Map in the item pool. Once the event item is taken the Map is added back into the pool
- If none of the above is true then a Map or Flashlight is made much more likely (but not guaranteed)
Note that an item is placed in a chest once the Survivor finishes searching it and thus the Modifiers are checked accordingly. If an item would be guaranteed but it isn't in the item pool then you still won't get the item.
All of these changes should make chests much more desirable and consistent while also assisting in edge case scenarios both involving and not involving chests.
