Why can't we just crouch over them and not have them activate? Much like Hags?

Bc you have to wake up using the boxes to not step on them
You can wake up a number of ways to avoid them. Small Game also detects the traps
Because they work differently than Hag's. You can't crouch over a bear trap either. When you're asleep Freddy has the advantage. It would be lame to let survivors crouch over them.
Whatever you do.... don't fall asleep.
