I'm sure you can understand how there is a relationship between the two though. MMR is king but you have to admit its an indicator, surely

Sure, it's an indicator of a lot of time played in a certain month, and I guess a lot of time played in a certain month has a correlation to skill. I.e., more time in game means one is likely to be better at the game.

But OP's initial post and the thought behind the complaint (BROKEN MMR!!!!!!) is not sound logic.

  • Grades are not the same as MMR though, right? Feels like they've been pretty clear about that.

  • I'm becoming more and more convinced that this is the way DbD needs to go in order to experience it's next evolution. This kind of stuff would open the game up so much more - and give it so much more room to grow. I was defensive of the proposal at first, but after running the same perks over and over again Esp on Survivor Side (because I have to, not because I want to), I've opened myself up to this.

I think at a Minimum, the following perks need to be base kit in some way:

SURVIVOR - Slugging, tunneling and camping affect the experience so much that I have to play "defensive perks" just to mitigate the possibility one of these things may happen. They don't enhance my experience, they just let me play the damn game.

    • Kindred
    • Borrowed Time
    • Unbreakable

KILLER - I have to run GenSpeed perks just to give me some more time for chases and the possibility of a win (2k+).

    • Pop goes the weasel (maybe not as good as it is now, but a version of pop so to make it worth it to kick gens. Pop can still be a perk but gives you the added oomph)
    • Ruin (again, perhaps not as powerful as it is now, but SOME sort of regression on gens when somebody isn't working on it would give us more chases and more time to play the game)

  • Can anybody explain how my Killer MMR(s) all interact with one another? Learning new things in this thread.

No rules broken so nothing to report.

No, there isn't any room. Unless we're going to 'flag' people for doing things Killers dislike, too. This is just garbage players trying to get revenge because they lost. And nobody's being driven away. the game's player count has remained steady or risen since it's inception aside from a few dips, and I was one of the players who actively tried to get people to boycott the game many times. It barely worked.

I receive your words. I tend to really really get nervous when it comes to any sort of behavior policing (pun intended).

Honestly, I'd be happier with some stronger moderation of chat and sportsmanship.

One of the two things that makes DbD a bit of a hard sell is the ingame community - particularly people who will be gloating jerks in victory. The internet is the internet sure, but even if you have a rhinoceros hide it...wears on you over time.

League of Legends had a similar issue with toxicity, and managed to achieve a remarkable turnaround with the Summoner Code and the Tribunal. Something like 80% of players reformed after a simple 'you've been getting a lot of reports, please keep an eye on your behavior' warning.

I wonder if one day we will have a Behavior (lul) Code and something perhaps to encourage better sportsmanship. This game...brings out the worst in people.

My best example would be a recent game I played versus a TTV squad who refused to complete the final gen and spent 30 minutes (!) teabagging and flicking me, and the second I downed someone they'd sabo, bodyblock etc. and make it literally impossible to hook. They came to the game with this intent due to their loadouts.

Eventually I just gave up and AFKed, and when they finally ended the game they said they'd be mass reporting me for 'non participation'. Argh.

I know that it totally removed my desire to play another game, and I can only imagine new players running into behavior like this and just bailing.

This is a great point. I think there is a balance to achieve. There's what is considered "legal" and "illegal" per the rules of the game (i.e. camping), and there's what's considered "legal, but dirty". Perhaps there's room for conversation to flag an account if they've received a certain amount of reports per hour played, or something like that. If even just to reach out to them and see what's going on.

The danger is in the game supporting/allowing nasty behavior and driving people away from the game or even out of the game altogether. Not necessarily me, because I am an addicted monkey brain, but thinking of the new free to play community coming in through Epic Games.

First of all nobody would be banned for Camping - that's not something that's even reportable, let alone something to ban for.

Chat insults - yes these are bannable but of course it depends on the level of insults, slurs, racism, homophobic comments etc will result in a temp ban, death threats can be permanently bannable. But we do allow a certain amount of "smack talk" - someone saying "you're ######### useless" in the game for example is not going to result in a ban.

And as for the other part of the question - please refer to the forum rules here, we do not discuss bans on the forum, so we would not appreciate people saying what they were banned for etc.

Thanks for responding, @MandyTalk ! Really appreciate it; this is good to know. It sucks to be camped, but I get that it's not breaking of a rule. Just very frustrating and very not fun :)

The insults were not in any of the categories you're specifying, just things like, 'get gid' and 'get out of your mom's basement'. You know, the way gamers speak to one another.

Anyway, I appreciate the response and will get back into the fog!
