  • It's like trading cards except the people selling them insist that if you buy one they grant you ownership over the actual player depicted on the card. Which isn't really "fine", even with the energy cost, since it's, you know, a lie, and its a lie that's fundamental to the concept as it has been pushed and promoted, but you're right that the energy costs make it even worse.

  • Even from a survivor perspective, I honestly feel lately like killers have been a lot less fun to play against. I'm having the most fun when I'm on the edge of my seat pulling off a clutch play, not when I'm sitting on gens, clowning on killers and rushing out the gate in record time.

    • make the first four hooks shared be the entire survivor team, to make camping and tunneling right out of the gate an ineffective strategy.
    • large killer buffs across the board, making "must have" addons into base kit and then making most of the "%" based addons and perks significantly more powerful, since many of them would make more sense speeding things up by 100% or 200% than by the current niche %5 or %9. Recognize the difference between a 5% move speed increase (which can easily mean increasing the important attribute, your speed advantage over the survivor, by 25% or more, in a scenario that will take up a lot of time each match) and a 5% increase in speed performing some specific action like "the speed at which you pull a shot survivor towards you as deathslinger" or "the speed at which you create portals" which has no multiplicative effect and doesn't use up a ton of match time to begin with.
    • Make perk "levels" global or do away with them completely.
  • Because its easy to counter, and you only have to adjust your strategy very slightly to make it impossible to counter, to a similar one that has all the same benefits and none of the weaknesses. Seriously just move your traps over a foot.

I'm not saying it can't work, especially against unskilled players, it's just that a slight adjustment makes it much much more effective.

  • The game is quite explicitly designed with the goal of the survivors being to fix gens and escape, as quickly as possible, and the goal of the killers to eliminate the survivors while preventing them from doing the above.

If you have a problem with tunneling, or gen rushing, your problem isn't with other players, it's with the way the game was designed. It would be trivially easy to change the game to slightly different win goals and eliminate the problem completely, but BHVR doesn't want to do that because they think this is how the game should be played.

    As an example:

Switch to a system that has some "party hooks" - all players get one hook state on their own (the struggle hook), and the rest are shared from a pool of 4 hooks that go to the survivors in general, then make the hook states last a bit longer. Suddenly tunneling or camping a player is no longer the most effective way to eliminate survivors and prevent them from escaping - instead, you are best off hooking whoever is easiest to hook and getting as many hooks as possible to chew through the opposing team's hook pile, with your ideal situation being having at least two people hooked at the same time.

That's just one easy way to change things, but there are countless others. BHVR has not expressed any interest in doing ANY of those things, and in fact have made tunneling a vital part of succeeding as the killer in high ranked games, so I think we can conclude that is the intended way to play the game at this point.

  • Yeah that's another thing, for trapper figure out where your 3-gen cluster spawns and put your traps there (or around the shack or some other really appealing place for survivors to go if you want to punish people). Don't scatter them around. Establish your priorities and get to set up, then collect traps as you're going around hunting them afterwards to bring back and reinforce your 3-gens even more. I've had plenty of trapper games that I 4ked even though survivors fixed 3 gens before I even downed the first one.

I like to hide traps in-between pallets. The survivors disarm them too much when they are placed next to generators.

I assume gen traps will be disarmed and that's kind of the point, survivors love disarming them so much it lets me know they're at a specific gen. Sometimes traps are useful just for the info.

Trapping inside a pallet is terrible and you should never do it. Either trap on the side of the pallet (so they can't drop it without stepping in it) or trap it around the corner of the loop and run them into it after the pallet is dropped. Or my favorite, drop them in the other side of an already dropped strong pallet and laugh when they slide into it confident they're safe.

  • Frankly I think the enthusiasm was less about the actual contents (there were certainly questionable decisions in those patch notes) so much as the general attitude. They read like they were written by someone who had improving the game as a genuine priority, who was willing to take some risks to do it, and who understood what players do and don't like about their experiences, and who had an awareness of how little things matter. Most of BHVRs posts and comments and patch notes are fairly tone deaf, vague, or make you question why they're doing something. These patch notes really make it feel like the person who wrote them cares.

  • Mics are great in games where there's a chill player base and easy mechanics for getting in and playing games with people you enjoy playing with - dedicated servers with regulars, guilds that control their membership. I LOVE talking to strangers in First Class Trouble, for example. I can't imagine them working in DbD and thankfully I don't see any chance of them being implemented.

In SoloQ if my teammates leave me to second hook state on my first down, I suicide on hook. Even if they start making their way towards me. ๐Ÿ˜…

I was playing with a casual 2-man SWF with a friend and I was having an unlucky string of matches where I was constantly found first and hooked (I was trying to do the unhook yourself 50 times trophy). I was caught in the first 20 seconds while hiding in a bush on Haddonfield. I spawned and within 10 seconds I heard the heartbeat. I got downed and put in the basement by a Blight, so I DC'd and stopped playing for the night.

Sometimes I wish my teammates would leave me til second hook state and FIX SOME DAMNED GENS. Especially if there's like two gens and I'm on first hook and getting camped, I am going to beg the other survivors to finish the gens and 99% the gates before unhooking me, please, I don't want to instantly get downed and hooked again when we could have finished gens first!

Here's my confession: I've been trapping the basement. I love putting one trap on top of the stairs, sidehooking the survivors and putting the other one just around the corner at the bottom, and then trapping one of the windows up near the top. I love watching the less skilled players hit every one on the way down, and then I don't even hit and hook up them - I use the time to reset the traps so I can watch them hit them again on the way out. Then I down a single person (usually the rescuer if I can, I'm not a tunneler) and put them back in the basement so I can do the whole thing over again. Maybe move a trap from a window to a door, or go get another one to add to the pile.

Often times as survivor I WISH my teammates would leave me til the second hook and finish off some gens instead, especially when its my first hook and there's only one or two gens left, ESPECIALLY if the killer is clearly camping me. It's like, yeah, I'd love it if you came and rescued me, but it'd love it a whole lot more of if there was an open or 99-ed exit gate waiting for me when that happens!

My confession is that I've been basement trapping even weak groups. side-hooking the survivors and putting one trap at the top of the stars and then one at the bottom just around the corner. And then usually at the window closest to the top of the stairs.

I just loving watching them hit the window trap, then the top stair trap, then the bottom stair trap (leaving me time to reset the top of the stair and window trap) only to see at least one of them hit them both again on the way out letting me knock them down, hook them in the basement, and repeat the whole thing again. I know its cruel, but its so much fun watching them fail over and over again.

  • The concept behind an NFT is fine.

The concept behind it is tricking people into paying to own something without actually giving them any ownership rights over the thing, which isn't really "fine". Conceptually, they are a scam from the same mold as pyramid schemes where you make profit by finding gullible suckers to eventually end up on the bottom of the pyramid, except most pyramid schemes at least have actual products you can buy lol. But I'd say that conceptually, no, they aren't really fine, but the environmental damage side effect certainly makes them a lot worse!
