We won't be retiring achievements. What it means is that the achievement will be made generic, so for example (and this is just an example, not saying this is what the achievement will be) - instead of Escape a Trial as Nancy, a more generic achievement will be "Escape 100 trials". So not a character specific achievement.
For players who already have the "Escape the Trail as Nancy" unlocked prior to the November 17th cut off point, they would have the new achievement automatically unlocked for them.
I hope that helps to clear up the confusion.
Very informative response. Thanks!

I don't see that this answers the question exactly. How can you make 'escape the trial as Nancy or Steve' or 'Merciless victory as Demogorgon' generic. I understand perks being made generic but not the achievements which require actions to be completed as the characters which will no longer be available.
And what does "if you already completed the achievement, the achievement will be automatically unlocked for you" really mean? Of course if you completed an achievement it will be unlocked for you. You completed it.
Will DBD simply retire the achievements which are no longer doable? In a way, I think that would be the best move.

What do people suggest to make it less grindy?
Have the devs said anything on the matter?

You get like 600 xp. So that's almost a full point. But still, feels grindy.
Roughly 600xp maybe one rift point if you play very well, not even a full point in some matches. And there are nowhere near enough challenges in each section of the tome. Does anyone know what the devs plan to do? They have mentioned it before, I'm sure.

That's missing the point slightly I feel. Do you think that reduces the grind?

It's the one upstairs on the balcony of the saloon right? with the self-playing piano.
-
I've done it 3 times now on PC and still no achievement for me, although people on friends list have managed to pop it.
-
that would make sense as queue times are much longer for solo survivors...
I find it really hard to rank up as killer.
-
Yeah, that's what I figured. It's too early to say at this stage.
There's talk of the ranking system being separated out for each individual character but that could definitely still work within the current brown-green-purple-red numbered system.
-
Hit a wall at rank 7 because I keep getting high rank swf teams. I cannot progress any further right now.

Whether rank and achievements ‘matter’ or not is entirely subjective. I am a completionist, so while you may not understand the mindset, it matters to me and many others.
Some achievements are hard to get, that’s fine and I don’t have any complaints. My question was on the likelihood of those achievements being retired post ranking system rework. Nothing else.
And achievements can indeed be removed from games, I’ve seen it happen more than once.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Ash also talks when he's picked up sometimes?
In any case, it's a question of in-game atmosphere.
Personally, I've always found the plague's chant sound pretty annoying.

Does anybody care to agree/disagree with this idea?
