A little late to the party but I'll give my two cents
As a Pinhead main, and Trapper secondary, but overall a killer main, I do what I can to not tunnel. The reason being is because when I first started playing this game I tried to balance it out between survivor and killer, and on the survivor side I was constantly getting tunneled.
That being said, it is a valid strategy; a poor one but a strategy nonetheless.
It's just like what I have to face off against a bully squad. I don't like having to deal with four flashlights, but it's a valid strategy on the survivor side.
I counteract that by using lightborn. And there's people that say I shouldn't use lightborn, well, just like you can bring in four flashlights, I can use that perk.
It doesn't matter what the devs do, because either side is going to find something to complain about.
So, is tunneling a valid strategy?
Yes
Just like running for flashlights is a valid strategy.
They both suck, but they are there.

I have actually been messaged by the killer beforehand and find it unfair that they can see us and we can't do the same.

Okay, so we found out why they brought in Vecna. Apparently in the D&D world, he is trying to rewrite everything, in game of course, and this is their way of saying goodbye to the current fifth edition rule set, and then they're going to come out with yet another rule set.
So, it was a move more so by WotC then by Behavior; although I stand by my previous statement that it is a stranger things tie in. WotC could have used any of the major big bads for this. They could have had it be any one of the BBEG's in any campaign setting. Forgotten Realms is the most popular and I believe Ravenloft is the next one.
WotC could have gone with Orcus, Lloth, Asmodeus, Manshoon, Cyric, Tiamat, or hell, even Yvonnel The Eternal (resurrected or reincarnated) trying to rewrite the multiverse to where the dark elves come on top of the food chain.
They chose Vecna because of the stranger things tie-in.
That's just my feelings on it.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of monsters, demons, and archdevils in D&D, and hundreds of bad guys that would fit the narrative of DBD.
Any number of monsters, a harpy, an ogre, you can even put in a dragon in humanoid form, and that's the Mori; they revert to their dragon form and eat them, or use their breath weapon on them. It'll have to be a chromatic dragon and not a metallic dragon though because the chromatic dragons are evil.
For characters, there's Manshoon, Strahd, Orcus even, hell, I'd take Errtu or the Gorgon from the Birthright campaign setting. But they went with a D&D entity that was part of another crossover. That's my big thing.
I can make make a list of better choices if you really want me to.
But I am one dissenting and unsatisfied voice out of allegedly 60 million. Like they're really going to listen to me.

Recently I've been running hex placing, spies from the shadows, nowhere to hide, and starstruck. Scratch that, I took out spies and put on lightborn because I've been running into a lot of bully flashlight squads
That's if I am Pinhead or Trapper, which are my two mains. If I'm messing around with, say, Myers, then I'll run lightborn and a blood points perk. And I'll just mess with people, I won't actually try to win. I'll pick them up, carry them around, I'll even go to a hook look up at the hook shake left and right so they know I'm saying no, and just keep running around.

With regards to PH, his ability to toss some type of attack through walls that rip up the ground and have barb wire through it
Ghostie with his stealth. I've only had 1 positive GF experience. Now, this was before the anti-camping mechanism they put in, he would camp and tunnel.
I picked Pinhead because I'm a fan of the franchise, and when i started, I tried out trapper and couldn't figure him out (silly, I know), so I paid for the DLC and picked him up right away.
Was just wondering. Not saying you should like going any killer, but to D/C when you find out it's a specific killer is just ... weird? Not sure what term to use.
