Map is good if you're trying to blood point grind. If you put on add ons that let you track other objects (totems, exit gates, hatch, etc.) you get points for just walking by it with a map in your hand
Map have some good spots and reasons, but for the most part of the game, it don't helps so much...

It's a marker add-on used with map. All survivors can see regardless of who used it. It's a secondary action. People usually use it to show where the hatch has spawned. It's not intractable.
