I hate playing survivor because of this. There’s so much camping, tunneling and slugging. The whole experience is miserable solo. And when it happens in swf it just ruins the fun and the vibe.
I strongly believe the face camp meter needs and speed buff and range buff. I’ve been camped by killer just ever so slightly far enough where I can’t get off before second stage. There also needs to be punishment for toxic gameplay on both sides. Not necessarily a ban but punishing enough to make them think twice.
In general if you, as a killer, have to camp or tunnel for the kill. You are playing out of your skill set. Take the loss and let that mmr to drop so you don’t have to play in such a terrible manner
Your takes could not be more wrong. As someone who ACTUALLY evenly plays both sides and enjoys both, I can give some legitimate unbiased opinion here. "Just drop your MMR" is just as nonsensical a take as "just do gens punish the killer for tunneling." The fact of the matter is, tunneling and proxy camping is the. most. efficient. way. to. play. Look at tournaments. Now, I'm not saying it's the healthy way to play, nor do I enjoy it. It's boring and stressful for both sides. But the players and their behavior are not to blame. They are not all being "toxic" for simply playing the game the way BHVR is forcing them to. And yes, they are forcing them to.
Dropping your MMR is unrealistic. I even asked Otzdarva personally about this and talked to several other people who know more about how the MMR system works. Once you reach the soft cap, it is extremely difficult to go below it, and extremely easy to reach it again. You'd have to lose dozens upon dozens of matches to lower it, only to win one and boom, you now have to lose dozens again. This whole tired argument of "Killers are just playing above their intended skill level!" nonsense is just entirely irrelevant and meaningless.
Punishing players for playing the way the game intends them to is not the answer. The game is extremely imbalanced for a Killer in a 4v1, but then the game is extremely imbalanced for Survivors in a 3v1. It should not work like that and BHVR NEEDS to fix it. Gen speeds are simply too fast in a 4v1. And no, don't tell me "well spread pressure better." There are only so many tools a Killer can use to spread pressure. It sucks when a Killer is trying as hard as they can to win and absolutely destroys a poor casual solo queue team. But they have to play that way because they never know when they're going to go against a demon SWF squad out to obliterate their day by rushing 5 gens in their face before they even have realistic time to get one down.
It is not a skill issue. This is factual by now. The MMR system is horrible. The gen speed/tunneling imbalance is horrible. The game is horrible. And no players are at fault. Going for 8 hooks and letting people go is also not a realistic option for some Killer players. I, for one, don't enjoy beating up on low level MMR players. I want to go against skillful opponents. And if you think "you don't need to tunnel or camp to win against a team of 4 equally skilled Survivors" then I'm sorry but you just have not actually played at high MMR.
Perks like Pain Res, Pop, etc are so oppressive because I see them as being "win more" perks. They only help when you're already winning by hooking people. They don't help any Killer players that struggle against squads who have an advantage from the start. The only tactics you have at that point to apply pressure are to proxy camp and focus on the weak link Survivors and get them out of the game. There is NO benefit to the Killer player to keep 4 people alive. 4 Survivors with 2 hooks each are no different from 4 Survivors with 0 hooks each. They all still apply more pressure than a Killer can realistically handle. Yet as soon as one is out, it's extremely impossible for anything but the most coordinated Survivor team to make a comeback.
This is just how the game is. And the constant blaming and whining that the other side is "being mean and toxic" just derails the conversation from the real problem which is the game's inherent horrible balance and BHVR's need to fix it. As long as both sides keep pointing fingers at each other and acting like "well if Killers didn't tunnel the game would be perfect" or "well if Survivors didn't gen rush the game would be perfect" then no progress is ever going to be made.
You want my opinion on how we as a community can actually force BHVR to fix the game? As many Killer players as possible should aggressively tunnel as hard as they can, and as many Survivors as possible should gen rush as much as they possibly can, more than they already do. Just to skew the stats and make so many players miserable that they'll start leaving the game in droves and BHVR will be forced to act. As long as this issue is just seen as an "us vs them" issue it's never going to be taken seriously. So quit it with the mentality that Killers are toxic just because they're playing the game in the only way the developers allow them to. It helps nothing.
