  • Honestly. It's not on par with self care with no buffs as best killer perk in the game, but depending on how people use it, it can be close.

A lot of players understand the concept that hook states is a resource, but only tend to think of them as a resource for themselves rather than for their whole team. It's quite important that you don't let yourself get caught and killed, but it's just as important to think about how you may be one by one feeding you teammates to the wolves if you hook pull them then disappear into a bush if you have any interest in winning as a team.

That said, when not used to be a bushmaster for a whole trial, it's an amazing perk. Ultimately the issues that exist with UE aren't UE itself but as I said, poor play with it in relation to the fact that the game has inbuilt rewards for being a crappy player. (For example, I have no problem with hatch in it's current incarnation but there's no way to logically deny that it's function doesn't very frequently reward people for being terrible teammates.)

  • Honestly whether or not to kick isn't a binary question. If you have enough overall pressure that it's not gonna get tapped any time soon, it's fine to kick, but unless you have a lot of pressure, you're literally wasting your time unless you're only kicking it to double check if it's been abandoned.

  • As someone who likes to clown around I gotta say bud, actually solid. Most people who try to give a fan buff or rework make busted broken ######### shows of a change and this is like..... Just right tbh.

He doesn't need to be moved into "good killer" territory, cause let's be real, he's already secret OP against unseasoned survivors, but he definitely needs some quality of life improvements with the same urgency wraith and myers need. I'm okay with him continuing to be a rough time against decent survivors but this would help lubricate the workings if you will.

I get why it takes time eternal to upgrade and rework licensed killers due to licensing stuff but.... Idk why stuff like this isn't done wholesale on the originals at a regular rate tbh.

  • TBH the issue with ruin undying isn't when it's ran on trapper or Mikey or someone like them, you hit the nail right on the head when you cited that it's issue is when it's ran on nurse/billy/blight/Freddy/Oni. That's when it really cranks up to 11.

That said, I fear it becoming useless to be honest if it were nerfed. I honestly think the only way to change it while keeping it strong and not dumpstering it would be to make undying itself not a totem, but just a perk with a charge count and have it only migrate a lot totem once. The potential for it to do it multiple times is what makes it so problematic when paired with tinkerer ruin and a map crossing killer.

I don't begrudge or look down on anyone running it, it's a vs game, meta stands for most effective tactic available. I am however disappointed in the devs for not taking action on it as soon as it presented as an issue however. Running it on any killer really feels like it puts the game into autopilot for me tbh.

  • If it bothers you enough to make a forum posting about it you have four choices: 1) turn off end game chat and block incoming messages from non friends. 2) stop caring. 3) stop playing. 4) play but just don't run things that annoy people.

I know this seems reductive and not very helpful but this is ultimately the truth of it man. I tend to do 4/2, I don't run things that annoy the piss outta me when I'm opposition, except occasionally, in which case I don't care and it's partially intended as satire of poor balance.

    It's a game.

  • As crazy as this may sound: if I'm gonna run a perk that'll give me a buff for having lost an objective it'd be fire up rather than bitter murmurs. Bitter murmurs can have it's uses on huntress, but it's only a few seconds long, where as the speed buffs from fire up are the rest of the round. A lot of people forget it's not just a leg day perk but also effects pickup and drop speeds, which does screw up people's timings with flashlights, and also makes being an R-key gamer when someone goes to body block more easy.

  • In theory DS and BT aren't problems. In practice even if you deliberately try not to tunnel and go after an unhooker instead you'll often be body blocked by someone with DS/BT (or both) active if you attempt to add pressure to an unhook you see happening.

This is one of those rough topics, because yes, absolutely should DS and BT exist particularly due to the fact that killer devout emblem literally encourages tunneling (which is a separate issue that needs addressed as well).

However, when you go complete another chase and hook someone completely different only to be DS'd in your very next chase, it's not a good feeling and is actually kinda ######### design. Moreso when the survivor in question decided to unhook or do a gen in your face.

  • Literally can't tell if the original post is satire or not. Yes, DS is used in some problematic ways lately and it does need some tweaks. But otherwise this is all laughable.

  • The emblem system for killers has been problematic since it first was put in. On that we agree. It's a problem that playing one hit down killer or against survivors that don't heal, effectively negates chaser. It's a problem that DCs and survivors that don't save dumpsters devout. And it's a problem that without a grimy build, going against some squads nukes gatekeeper, particularly on setup killers.

However, if you look past the fact that there's problems with killer requiring constant specific interaction with survivors to pip up while survivors can kinda screw off and still auto pip, you'll see that a lot of the rest of your post is not exactly correct.

There has never been a better time in this game to play killer, with the way dedicated servers are if your net is crap you get hits you shouldn't. They've started over the past year reworking the most problematic maps, balanced landing pseudo infinites are gone with the balanced rework, we don't have pallet vacuums and window vacuum fast vaults anymore, there are no true infinites left save for two, insta heals have been nerfed, exhaustion got reworked ages ago now, the past few killers though not all top tier have been fun in their own ways and their perks have been off meta but fresh and usable.

This was one of the top most profitable games on steam last year, so:

Should we be demanding that map reworks and a rework of the emblem system, and fixes to alotta survivor exploits that've been cropping up go through sooner rather than later considering they should have the money for it? Kinda, we don't see their books but, kinda.

Should we be out here all doom and gloom pretending that the developers only nerf killers and that it's miserable to play killer? Nah fam, you need to remember the dark times.

  • They've for so damned long said that they balance the game based on 2ks. Hopefully one day the pipping system will reflect that and this conversation will be more cut and dry.

  • Jeff also gets ######### in the outfit department.

  • Honestly with how many engine updates and menu coding changes have been made, no, it's probably not as simple as re-hanging the old lights sadly.

However, no Christmas poppers and present bloodwebs is a effing tragedy.

  • As someone who plays a lot of survivor. All the current emblem system in red ranks for killers does is encourage hard tunneling off hook and annoying slowdown builds.

Even from the other side we see the folly in this. And it makes the game miserable for all involved.

Yes, it 100% is. If you guess right, she loses a ton of time. If she guesses right, you get hit. It’s 10 times more fair than poor pig or trapper being forced to eat a cow loop with little to no counterplay.

I’ve been a top competitive fighting game player. One thing i’ve learned is that just because someone is top doesn’t mean their opinions hold much weight: some top players have outrageously bad opinions. It’s not a blow up, but being good doesn’t validate your opinions.

Dude, while I agree that being good doesn't mean a person's opinion is automatically right, when a majority of people you ask about a topic have similar viewpoints (demonstrated from top to bottom skill level wise) you need to honestly step back and question whether or not you, one of the few who don't have a similar viewpoint, are perhaps misinformed or flat out wrong.

And again, all of this is ignoring the fact that you still even throughout the course of this conversation don't seem to have a grasp on the fact that this is a CASUAL competitive game, so even more so than in standard competitive games fun is an incredibly valid and important concept in regards to balance. Since you are continuing to skirt this point and either rebute it or discuss merits and demerits of it as a concept (thus dumpstering the topic of discussion your initial post pretended to bring up) I'm done here and will instead be starting a conversation with my bedroom wall as it is bound to be more receptive to input.

Maybe dbd isn't your thing and you can go back to being a "top competitive fighting game player".

    I’m down for any challenge.

People are entitled to their feelings, but they shouldn’t be giving balance suggestions if they haven’t done their homework.

Are you suggesting that the multiple streamers and content creators that literally play dbd for a living and are considered by many to be some of the best players in the world haven't done their "homework" and don't have a single clue what they're talking about?

Think for a moment how arrogant you sound saying that.

In regards to the spirit again, I don't tend to have as much problem with her as many others, however, if a feature or concept of a game isn't readily understandable to a majority of players (many of which upper tier players) then it's poor design and is likely unbalanced.

I get it man, a few months back everyone was crying about Billy (arguably the most balanced killer in the game) being unfun and unbalanced, and I laughed at them, like, hard, then people started getting better at countering him and that subsided. Then it shifted to spirit and I had the same response as I chuckled at people I thought were just bad. Then the months pressed on and on and on and on, and I continued to watch how others interacted with her and tried to counterplay her, watched as numerous top tier players said they'd agreed that she was unfun and unbalanced and realized just because I didn't have a problem doesn't mean she's not a problem.

In regards to whether or not "fun" should be considered in balance decisions (your original "point") before most of this thread derailed into a spirit discussion (though, she is a very good example as to why whether or not something is fun matters in the current state of play). Yea dude, it should. This is supposed to be a video game, not a slough down in a mine, and FROM THE JUMP, as in SINCE RELEASE, it's been a casual game, and fun matters even more in casual games.

  • While I understand where you're coming from, the part I think you're missing is that dbd isn't intended to be a "competitive" game in the sense that you think it is.

Dbd is like the drinking game "Cornhole". It's meant to be fun, but it'll probably never be on ESPN. Sure, some people might git gud enough at it to play it for a living but...

Dbd isn't CS:GO. It's not Hearthstone. It's not LoL. It's a fun party game. If you don't realize that I suggest you watch the rivals event that happened on Halloween, literally some of the best players in the world competing against each other and they were just having fun.

And as for "looping and gen rushing" not being fun for you, as killer it's not just cat and mouse. The main element of the game for killer that determines a win is map control and time management. If you actually hate getting looped or dealing with objective centric survivor teams (which yea I agree, gen times are getting a bit nuts these days and need a look) then don't play killer. That's literally the role.

I play both sides, and I dare say I play both sides quite well. And I get your frustrations there's some major balance issues with the game, but I also get the frustrations of those upset about spirit (though I tend to fare against her better than most). You don't have a right to discredit other people's opinions.

After all, dbd is intended to be the world's best FUN party game that's horror themed.
