  • Well it's a tactic that's used in any game. For example call of duty or siege. Camping is actually a legit and encouraged tactic, there are even game modes where it is literally get to point A and hold it.

So when I first started playing and I heard it was effectively a no no to camp. I was a bit confused but also I understood as you have 4 people to worry about and with how quick gens can get done these days it's sometimes not effective to camp.

    However I am a firm believer that camping and tunnelling is a strategic method to win the game or at least get x amount of kills. Sometimes games are tough and people be stupid so camping and tunnelling might just happen without you actively trying to do it. Which happens about 90% of the time it happens to me while the other 10% is me trying to yeet survivors off gens only to watch my beloved run away. Why you run from my love Bill? ;_;

The amount of survivors on crossplay who just run into me as if I'll just faze out for a while so they can pass through is amazing. Though console has its plebs too, for instance when a whole team tries to rush hook but 2 of them run away and I get a free down because they chickened out or even when their running about the area you have hooked someone and they expect you to just leave when I can see your god damn scratch marks you fool.

There are 3 types of camping and tunnelling for me.

    Purposeful. Accidental. And forced.

Purposeful is when you actively go in to camp and tunnel. Like you load in and just go "I'm going to camp the first person I hook because x y z..."

This is bad. Stop doing it. It's toxic and makes other killer's look bad. Same for survivors who go in to actively bully, stop doing it it gives the game a bad name and makes survivors look bad.

Accidental is when you hook someone and you walk away only for them to get unhooked so you walk back. Some would consider you not being halfway across the map as camping in that moment, I don't as you intended to move away. But then you get there and the person you hooked is an idiot and gives you a free down. This is tunnelling but it's not your fault they ran into you. If they give you the opportunity take it, their mistakes are your saving grace.

Accidental camping would be if you don't know the map very well or if you like me sometimes get stuck on stuff and have to figure out the maze of barrels or tires etc before you can gtfo. This is more for newbies as you can't really accidentally camp when you learn maps etc. My excuse is I'm busy looking for ma boi Bill or that fine drink of water Felix. Or I'm just not paying attention it happens.

Forced is when survivors force you to do it. Not like their holding you hostage kinda thing but their just god damn stupid.

If a group of survivors hover about you and you are forced into camping or tunnelling depending on what happens then this is something you can't really do anything about. For example Jake Bill and Meg are on Gen 1. You down Kate and take her to hook. Meg and Jake come to swarm you at hook while bill sneaks over for a easy unhook while your distracted. You can chase the others off while defending your kill, you know if there's 2 then there's a 3rd somewhere around you waiting for you to take the bait. You persist and they have to change tactics. So they rush hook, you get a few hits off and manage an exchange. They swarm so you have to just hit what you can while you try to hang your new kill.

This is boring. This is bullying. This is a SWF. You have been forced to camp. Eventually they'll force you to tunnel as they'll run out of bodies to block eventually. You down em all you hook em all and the end game messages are all "reeeeeeee you camped and tunnelled reeee".

For me it's forced if I have no choice but to sit and wait because I can literally see you hiding behind that bush Dwight. Or I can see the wall covered in scratch marks and I know your literally there waiting for me to move, like do survivors not know how to stop running? Why are you running? It's giving you away.

Other times are when I've gone to walk away only to hear the rustle of the swarm coming towards me. And it's like... 0.0 oh no. One of us about to have a bad time.

Sometimes it just be stupid being stupid. Like I've had trapper games where an unfortunate soul got hooked at shack and I had 3 traps on me or in the area I could just go get and set at shack. Then I walk away and in the distance I hear "ahhhh" "ughgh" "aghhhhh" as all 3 go off and I'm like... •.• ok...then guess this is a quick game after all. Then be looking at the fact I still have 5 gens up like ¿-?

Anyway it's a tactic but it should be used only when needed or you have no other choice. I've had a lot of altruistic people lately who just want me to sit in one area and that's it.

As long as you don't do it to ruin others game outright I don't see a problem with it.

  • The memes on this thread are worth reading it, I am not one to judge tho. Tbh I've read worse on Archive of our own or Wattpad - that rabbit hole I fell in was deep.... ●.● I still haven't gotten over the Myers x Dwight stuff. Tbh I don't even know how I got there...

  • The Game or the Corn map.

Hell if I could delete the lower level of the game and make it only an upper flat level map it'd be fine. If I could delete the corn on the corn map it'd be fine. If I could delete the door sounds on Lerrys I'd like it more. I like playing Ormond but if I could delete the main building and make it smaller or a small series of cabins instead that would be fine. I love Midwhich, best map in the game. Such tight corridors and hallways that playing trapper or hag is gg. Doctor and huntress is good on that map too, love those long corridors and hallways perfect for when my aim is bad.

Oh I forgot my boi Demo.

*slaps demos head* You can make so many choke points with this bad boi.

I think legion would be good on that map too. I know Myers is. And spirit is just good no matter the map. I imagine clown would be good because of the limited space you can run in so his gas thing would be useful. Honestly I just love Midwhich.

  • When I used to play survivor I would sometimes intentionally get hooked so I didn't have to wait for my team to die or to just quickly end my game (as a killer player who used to dabble in both back a few months I tended to only play survivor if I had dailies for it or needed to do some rift stuff - so sometimes I would get myself killed after finishing my daily or rift objective if my team was doing really badly). It often bought my team time especially against killer's who liked to camp me. And it kinda told them to not bother coming for me.

Other times I'd just get unlucky and be the one that got hooked.

Obviously your teammates can't instantly appear at your hook to unhook you. So killing yourself on hook just makes you look like a sore loser or a rage quitter that didn't want to dc. Besides all of that your team could be...oh I don't know busy?

Maybe their finishing a gen. Maybe their hiding from killer and having to slowly work their way over. Maybe killer is chasing them near other survivors who can't just sprint to you because you'd probably just rage about that instead. Or maybe you were a not so good teammate yourself that game.

If my teammates are toxic to the killer I leave them to die. I don't want any part of that mess your making.

If your toxic to your own team you get left to die.

If your far away and start spamming buttons to get me there faster I'll just assume your killing yourself and leave you to it. Hell even if your close to me and start doing that I'm just going to assume you want to die.

It honestly just sounds like your used to running with swfs and got some randoms and your just a sore loser because you got hooked first or your amazing play didn't work and you got hooked.

Sometimes stuff happens. You should try playing killer you might actually really enjoy it. I had a lot of problems with the game as survivor and I found killer way more enjoyable so I made the change to killer and never looked back.

  • When I played survivor my fun was escaping. Getting out no matter what was my fun. Crawling away to hatch was my fun, I had mastered the art of getting away unnoticed when I went down somehow. Stumbling upon hatch with killer on my tail was fun. Plundering chests was fun. Getting 5 gens done was fun.

Helping my team wasn't fun. Getting chased was not fun. Getting farmed wasn't fun. Having teammates team with killer wasn't fun. Soloing gens wasn't fun. Having to get an item and get out wasn't fun. Playing against certain killer's wasn't fun. Playing with teams or swfs wasn't fun. Playing with potatoes wasn't fun. Having toxic teammates wasn't fun. Having toxic killer's wasn't fun. Getting left to die on hook was never fun.

But my fun was about me. To me the killer and I could have been completely alone and I would have had fun playing hide and seek with them that's how little my team mattered to me. Sometimes I'd get a great team and I'd take one for the team but most games I focused on my own survival. I would pound out gens. I would pop exit gates. If my team lived that was up to them to achieve not me. I might wait if I see a teammate running to the gate or I might take a hit to save one but usually I got out the moment the gate was open. My job was done, I achieved my goal why would I linger?

After having so many bad teammates I stopped being about the team. And started to focus on me. I had a lot more fun that way.

I play killer exclusively now. Mainly because I got sick and tired of toxic teammates and because I was running into a lot of Myers and Ghostface killer's that were really good at giving me heart attacks - learnt pretty quick that crouch spamming was my defence mechanism when I got scared - or going and Blair witching in the corner for a few minutes while the killer just stared at me (probably confused as to why I wasn't moving from that wall) was also a tactic I used.

I've got no qualms with anyone using their perks etc but some people on this game are sadistic. Some people enjoy ruining the game for others.

  • I'm a killer player but I think hatch is fine as it gives a last chance and can lead to some really tense moments.

However I think hatch shouldn't spawn until 1 gen is left or 1 survivor is left. Having a whole team just do 3 gens to find hatch and gtfo is boring.

I dunno what improvements could be made but I don't agree that hatch should be removed.

Keys should be removed or made so they can't open hatch with just 1 key. I wish there was also a perk that locked chests or an addon that would lock x amount of chests or activate when you do such and such in the area of them so keys are more useful than just a hatch exit after 3 gens.

  • Killer for me is way more fun than survivor, I kept going against red ranks Myers and Ghostface that made the game jumpscare central. That was before MMR came to console but because I've had such a horrible experience I simply refuse to play survivor anymore - not to mention my teams were typically garbage 90% of the time. I had red ranks one game that did nothing but run at the killer and get killed constantly, they would heal in front of the killer and loop exactly the same loop everytime. That was against the old Billy btw. I single handedly did 5 gens, popped the exit gates, and got the hell out. I want no part in that playstyle, they got what they damn well deserved.

But back to the question...yes killer is fun, it's frustrating and annoying at times and sometimes you draw the bad set of survivors who like being toxic and bullying.....but that's what Mori's are for.

I only recently became a mori advocate. When I kept running into toxic higher ranks and started having to change up how I play and try my best to mimic others playstyles to combat it. Then I kept meeting the same SWF team. They made me bring a mori with how toxic they were.

The game changed really fast though when I started mori-ing people. They just fell apart like they didn't know what to do.

I figured I'd take a page out of the books of people I used to play against as surv. I spoke to a few of them got their perks and decided to buy their killer's too.

Myers and spirit joined my ranks first. Spirit is my go to these days as I just have a blast playing her. Myers is fun but hard work without some decent perks or add ons.

    Then legion and demo.

Legion is hard man. Learning how to use him is difficult but my second game with him went wayyyyy better than my first I learnt a lot from it.

Demo tho. I love demo. Demo is Love, demo is life. But it's a challenge sometimes, especially when people rip my portals like...ok now I know where you are as I walked two seconds away from it but alright you should have waited tho now you die or at least get smacked for being an idiot.

I think there's a fine line for both of us to enjoy the game, survivors and killer's I mean. Because your fun depends upon you and them, your actions affect the other players fun too just like theirs impacts yours.

  • I got the game when it had free days to play on xbox. I bought it because I really enjoyed the time I had on the game.

Now I'm not stupid I knew what I was getting in for with dbd. I watched video's and did my research before committing to buying it. I knew everything about this game and it's community before going in to it. But my god is this game/community toxic.

From the first day of buying the game I was getting anywhere from 5 to 15 messages a day. I've played Call of Duty games, I play Siege, I play Friday the 13th, I play Warzone and honestly I've never had to change my settings in 12 years of playing games but within the span of 5 days of playing this game I had people spamming invites and messages. I had a run in with the same group 5 times over the course of a week and no matter what I did they would spam me messages and invites. After the first week I had to change my settings to private and basically make it so no one could talk to me or invite me to games at all.

I'm a solo player but I can play with a team of randoms so long as they pull their damn weight. I'm so used to people of a level where they just jump in and do what they gotta do and get out. I'm so used to having ramdoms be my teammates and just be good at the game. But holy cow did I not expect that some randoms are like trying to play with a potato, no thats offensive to potatoes because a potato could play better than some of the people I've been with. Like...why are 3 of yall dying already when we have 5 gens to do? Why did it take 2 of you to rescue someone only for you to fail and all get downed? Why are you sitting in a corner watching our teammate die on hook when the killer is chasing the David halfway across the map? Why are you running? Why is no one on gens? Where is my team? Why are you in the basement?! Are you really going to hide in the locker all game? Why did two of you dc when the killer isn't doing anything wrong? Why are you dropping pallets left right and centre? Why are you making so much noise? Why aren't you healing? Why are you clicky clicky flashlights then getting mad when it fails and dcing? Why are you t bagging when bloodwarden is up? Why drop a pallet on killer that's already walked away from the pallet?

But I've had some great team mates as survivor. I had a team that was really good at looping killer and saving each other. I had a team smash the gens and we never even saw the killer once. I had people who just were great teammates in general.

But why do I play killer? Because I want to.

Toxicity shouldn't stop you or anyone from playing the game how you want to. If someone is toxic be toxic back or better yet sit in the basement until the match ends - legit advice I was given for SWF groups, actually worked a few times and got some easy kills for it. I even used a SWF group to practice Nurse, I enjoyed blinking through time and space and getting myself stuck in a wall and even sitting on top of buildings for a while enjoying the view of the map. If you've got killer's you're not good with take the bad games to learn them or practice with them, or just practice with whatever killer you picked.

I would rather them waste their time with me than have them ruin someone else's game honestly.

But I play killer because I want to. Survivors are boring to play as, it's also extremely unfun going against the same killer's over and over again. I've had 5 survivor games with Myers this week alone, 5 Ghostface games and 3 Freddy games. I just want to die to other people, it's not you its me.

Killer is fun. No teams of survivors are the same, it's great. It's great having people who fight till the last drop or those that just accept death. It's great having a team of randoms work together to survive or die by your hands. It's great being able to pick up new tactics or try and figure out new ways of doing things to counter the survivors. It's great testing perks out on them, it's just fun man.

It's ruined a little by toxic teams and toxic people but as a whole I'd still recommend the game to people. I'd let them know what they were getting in for before hand and tell them to private things way before they boot up the game so they don't have the same problems I had but on a whole the game is great. It's super fun. It's a nice game to play.

The cat and mouse is great. The risks vs rewards is great. The killer's are just *chef kiss*. The perks are fun to mess about with.

I think honestly we should have a ranked and unranked system though. I prefer to play casual not have to play like I'm in the Esports tournaments, ya know? I just wanna chill. I don't care about rank. I'm here to have a good time not get stressed but that's another topic entirely.

    Tl;Dr

It's fun despite the toxicity I've ran into its still enjoyable. Game is great. Killer's are fun. Perks are good. Enjoying it more than survivor.
