  • All the good anti tunneling mechanics are trash now. DS literally did me 0 good - the Blight caught up to me before I could run 5 steps. The basekit BT is laughably easy to counter - just wait 5 seconds. BBQ doesn't offer a bonus anymore so no one runs it - which is a shame since it encouraged people to leave hook. Combine all this with 50 extra seconds of gen time per game and the killer is absolutely incentivized and rewarded for camping/proxycamping/tunneling.

Yea.....One thing I'd like to note. Is I see an aweful lot of complaints of "omg camping and tunneling at 5 gens !!!"... WHY are they going down at 5 gens exactly...Where survivors are at their strongest

I mean it's not exactly hard to get a survivor down that early. Sometimes you just get lucky stumbling across one. And if you want more of a guarantee, you can just run Lethal Pursuer or Discordance or one of the many other perks that give you immediate info on survivors' whereabouts

The only way to resolve it is to make tunneling/camping less efficient than other methods. I don't believe you can accomplish this with any punishment or incentives though, and it would require a complete overhaul of core game systems. Which isn't impossible, just harder.

Take, for example, a system where survivors are treated more as a team for resources. So instead of 3 hook stages each, it's only first hook and then death hook, skipping struggle. However, now there are 4 collective hook stages for any survivor to use, that are used before their individual ones. Same number of hooks, 12 hooks and everyone is dead.

This nukes camping. You can technically still face camp one survivor, but they won't die until all of the communal hooks and their own hooks are gone: 6 hook stages. By then the other three survivors are already into their next match and you've died of boredom at the hook.

It also discourages tunneling. Until you have at least 4 hooks, it doesn't matter one bit who you chase next. In fact, if you aren't hunting your next down right away you are losing pressure. It becomes more efficient to leave hook immediately and chase someone off a gen to ideally get another hook before the rescue. Hook trading still works, but why only have two survivors off gens when you can chase a third?

This isn't a perfect system, but this is the kind of change that would reduce the 'efficiency' of camping and tunneling but still let people 'strategically' do whatever they want without implementing a punishment or disincentive.

I like this... I like this a lot. Having a communal pool of hooks to go through before death would change the game for the better in a lot of ways

Survivor is still easy af, stop being babies.

Killer was unplayable for 4 years.

Haha tell that to yourself the next time a killer tunnels you out of the game in 2 minutes and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

It is because BBQ lost its bloodpoint stacks. No incentive to spread hooks across all players.

Camping is least path of resistance now.

I promise, I hardly ever camp but the temptation is very high right now.

Duuuude you're right! I didn't even think about that. And yeah I tried tunneling for a few rounds of killer but it honestly wasn't fun or the least bit challenging. I mean yeah I can win games and get a lot of blood points? But fun? Nah. Just get one survivor out and the game plays itself at that point.

If we lose to camping today, we've been losing to camping before the patch.

Camping is NOT a strat used out of spite, never been, it's a strat TO WIN.

In my experience previous to 6.0, I'd mostly be camped only if I lead the killer on a crazy chase or stunned them a bunch or something. And it usually wasn't an early game. Now killers seem to camp/tunnel the first person they down in about half of the games I play. But yes I agree it's always been a problem. Just more so these days

  • @BrokenSouI said:

If you say so. I'm not discrediting anyone's experiences. I highly doubt it's happening nearly as much as people like to say it does though. It's such a rarity in my games.

Hmm I mean it's good to know it's not happening everywhere, but for me it occurs in probably 40% of the games I play

Always been, especially latter with specific build.

And there has been countless suggestion for "fixing" it, none has been implemented.

I wonder how long it takes for devs to actually do things on this matter.

Update 6 really changed things for some reason though. Sure, I ran into campers before. But they were usually camping a player out of spite knowing they would probably lose the rest of the game as gens popped around the map. Now killers just do it mindlessly because it is by far the easiest way to win.

  • @Khelendrose2020 said:

It always has been. The problem is, how do you change it without completely destroying the killer side of the game? Some situations call for camping. I had 4 gens very close to each other and 2 people hooked in the middle of those gens. No reason at all to leave that area. Strategically, it would be stupid to go across the map to pressure a gen away from my 4 gen area with traps.

How do you stop camping without punishing a killer who is just making the right call at the right time? As much as I hate camping and tunneling, it is hard to argue against the advantages of them when it works. Calling for it to end is basically calling for killers to be forced to play nice. How will survivors then have to play nice?

Yes, I agree camping has a place in certain situations. It's just a shame it's so common to see it early game now because it completely ruins the survivor's chance to win
