As Trickster lover, I think the issue is y any of the things people are actually complaining about. It is more so how the person playing trickster plays that makes people crazy. And those that think he is a weak killer are the ones who don't know how to sue him, and play like how survivors hate.
Many times when going against a trickster, they will camp, and tunnel to get kills. As a survivor standpoint that can be annoying and hard to counter sometimes. As a killer I can see that play style getting stale. If your aim is good and you take your time with either survivor. You can still win even without fancy add on offerings. And the survivors typically have a more pleasurable experience against him Trickster was one of the first killers I've adepted, as he was the only reason I bought DBD to begin with. There is a specific rythem to him, and it takes time to hone it in. This is my opinion. I adore trickster and I don't think he needs to change. I casually play killer and I main survivor.
