  • I'm a few weeks late here with sharing this, but maybe somebody is still interested in watching this

"6 months of #RevertTrickster" - a summary of what happened and what the current state is.

  • Oh my, where do I start here, because I read this thread for a while now, but honestly was a bit hesitent on writing.

First of all, where am I coming from? I'm a Trickster/Ranged main player. I play a lot of Huntress, Artist and Deathslinger as well, but mostly Trickster. Currently having around 1.7k hours in the game, ~1.3k on killer, of that most likely 1k on these four killers. So, I might be one of "Revviums little minority group" of over a hundred of players that enjoys that killer a lot in some peoples opinion.

From my point of view, I'm just a knife throwing enjoyer, I'm nowhere to be as good as Revvium, Wacek or anybody else up there and that's fine.

I still think current Trickster is boring to play though. 90 % of my games are "find a survivor → hit 8 knifes → main event → down/hook → find a survivor…" there is simply no skill or tech or anything needed, Trickster at the moment is as flat as a character can get. And using M1 on Trickster shouldn't be an argument here, it's not like BHVR would suddenly put Huntress, Slinger, Spirit or Hag on 4.6m/s to "make it easier for beginners to pick up that killer". That's a bs argument, you have knifes on Trickster to make up for 4.4 as you have hatchets on Huntress, TP on Hag, phase-walking on spirit, a rifle on Slinger, etc. and that's fine. It was the same with old Tricksters knifes/throwrate.

Do I like what Revvium suggests here? Mostly, yes.

I'm not a huge fan of the combo system in general, even less if you have "bonus abilities" like an extra knife bounce coming from it, even though it's super rare and more a thing for the more skilled/aim-focused players, I think something like that would make the killer too complex on the long run.

On the other hand, I see nobody complaining about the complexity of other killers, like for example the Unknown, because most of his stuff is kinda obvious, but as soon as you figure out what you can do with his ability and that there are options for playstyles most players wouldn't even consider in a lifetime, well, I could also see that being done on other killers. And I'm not talking about addons here.

Unlike the current Trickster the suggestions in this thread would add some skill ceiling again to Trickster that's higher than the floor to pick him up again. You don't need to play every addon or every single feature of his kit to be somewhat decent at a killer and have fun on it. The amount of Demogorgons I've seen that never ever even placed a portal, not even talking about teleporting…

Reworking Trickster like this would still make it possible for new players to pick him up and give the better or more dedicated players something to work on, to explore and improve.

  • By now I'm at the same spot as many others seem to be here.

    Find a survivor -> Shoot 8 knifes -> Main Event -> Hook -> Find a survivor...

I heard that BHVR is looking into it again, but honestly - can we please have the old 4.4 trickster back? With all the old addons? At least meanwhile? Maybe remove recoil and we're good? Currently the skill ceiling is like below the floor, which is not really a fun or engaging mechanic to play.

  • I'm honestly also at a point where my thoughts are going all over the place.

I consider to stop maining Trickster. Yesterday I played some games on him again (after a 5d break of DbD) and noticed a lot more, how his knifes are basically not useful/fun anymore. But I also honestly have no idea what to opt for yet.

Somehow I'd love to go for nurse, just because so many Survivors I faced are like "Trickster is trash, play a real killer", but at the same time I'm still more interested in ranged killers, so the ones that are left now, Huntress, Artist, Slinger.

Or maybe I just stop playing DbD at all. Trickster was the reason I started playing it at the first place.

Nothing set in stone yet, but as he is now, he's literally relying on addons on a level that's not okay. But hey, took Onryo mains only 6 month to get their main rolled back...

  • It's been a while since I posted here, because I wanted to see where the game and the Trickster go and well, I made another video on it, to keep the most pressing points in my opinion.

TL;DR: Trickster right now is more an M1-Killer than a ranged killer.

  • My last video/opinion drop and apology on this:

  • While this is a 'buff' compared to the verison we had now, it's still weaker (or nerfed) compared to the old 4.4 trickster from live verison.

Made an update with some math and other additional issues on it again, but by now my hope isn't really there anymore.

Thanks all for leaving your feedback here (for the constructive comments at least), it's been gratefully received.

Designers are currently in the process of making some changes to the throwing speed which is what we've identified to be the biggest issue with Trickster - unfortunately this couldn't be done in time for todays bugfix so we're hopeful it will be in the next bugfix patch, but this date is not confirmed.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, because I know, large companies sometimes need more time to fix/revert things that have gone wrong because of policies, rules, workflow, etc.

But I beg, please don't mess this up. If unsure what to do, just revert to old Live version, remove recoil and change photocard. Maybe keep the 4.6m/s, just don't do one change per hotfix and hope that at some point the community will be quiet or gone as other companies do...

Why not take advantage of Ji-Woon Hak characteristic as a musician, and give Trickster a unique advantage of having "Superior Hearing”?

I mean, that compared to other killers, he can hear various sounds from distant survivors, also is less likely to miss sounds from nearby survivors.

As much as I thought that this could actually be cool, as inpractical it gets. You'd need to have some sort of indication of "near" or "far away" sounds, on headphones I could imagine this works, but there are also people playing on console with (TV) speakers or heck, even I sometimes, when I just want to try something real quick play on my 5.1 system instead of headphones.

Also it would be really confusing for new players to pick him up.

a rough summary of my opinion in this video. takes 9 minutes and I mentioned only the things I thought would be the most critical. Missed a lot of other major points, but there's also the google doc of wacek and endzej_ linked below the video (also refering to it in the video itself)

  • So, I'm a Trickster main for almost 2 years now and also started playing the game because of him and honestly, this rework makes me considering to switch to huntress/slinger/artist.

He feels so much slower, clunky and goes against so many things bhvr said in their announcement on the 'rework'...

If you don't want to give him the 4 knifes/sec, then at least let him ramp up throwing speed like in the past - and also, if it's a bug, please fix main event - or if it's not a bug, make him throw knifes faster there. I see no use in using main event at the moment as it is right now, only has drawbacks, maybe except the infinite knifes.

  • Thank you for your responses, Bennett_They1Them and Mooks!

This made it clearer and I probably took that text too strict and more as a "how it should be" and not as guidance.

  • Thank you for that fast response, jesterkind!

but then it's even more confusing to me, because the last survivor was on two hooks as well, only needed the last one. So, with one survivor alive, all others hooked, one on two states at once, it would still be "10 hook actions" as shown in the endscreen.

Is the text in the description misleading then? because it says "Iridecent quality needs nine or more hook actions" and I got ten?
