Why do we have to lose offerings if a killer leaves a match?

I understand that offerings are “burned” at the beginning of a trial, but i find it extremely unfair that if the killer dc’s that i lose my offering. for example, i brought a white ward w a purple flashlight and lost my white ward. like #########??
