Potential Freddy (The Nightmare) Rework with add-ons

Before I begin, I should put out a disclaimer for the audience: I have not played The Nightmare using add-ons or perks at all, only through occasional times where I use the Smoking Splinter to try him out. This is only a concept and not anything I'm going to push to have.

So The Nightmare is the weakest killer in the game, mainly due to his lack of power. If anything, his power puts him only at a disadvantage since it delays the chase for a few seconds before he can actually attack the survivor. Not only that, his power does little to absolutely nothing DURING a chase, so here is my attempt at trying to fix him. Starting with his power, using the same format as in-game:

Power: "Dream Demon"

Death won't accept him, thus he remains, a calamity, indisputable master of his victims' nightmares. Dream Demon allows The Nightmare to pull survivors into the Dream World. Once in this realm, it allows him to manipulate The Entity at will.

  • Survivors who are awake do not see The Nightmare, but do hear chanting as he approaches.
  • Using the secondary action allows The Nightmare to pull survivors into the Dream Transition after some time.
  • (Dream Transition lasts 7 seconds.)
  • During the Dream Transition, they can see glimpses of The Nightmare occasionally.
  • The Nightmare's movement speed is slightly increased during the Dream Transition.
  • When the Dream Transition lapsed, the Survivor is pulled into the Dream World.

Once at least one survivor is in the Dream World:

  • Holding the secondary action allows The Nightmare to pull more survivors into the Dream Transition or manipulate The Entity.
  • The Nightmare can call upon the Entity to break pallets, block windows, generators, and cause sleeping survivors to scream and reveal their location, regardless of their position.
  • (Breaking pallets has a default cooldown of 60 seconds.)
  • (Blocked windows remain blocked for 20 seconds. Only one window may be blocked at once. If Bamboozle is in effect, then this ability will not work until it is unblocked.)
  • (Blocked generators are only blocked to survivors in the Dream World, and are blocked for 80 seconds or until all survivors are awoken. Interacting with the generator again after 20 seconds using Dream Demon will unblock it. The generator's aura will turn YELLOW while it is blocked and will turn WHITE when it can be unblocked. Only one generator may be blocked at once.)
  • (Causing survivors to scream will only function when not in a chase, are outside of The Nightmare's terror radius, and has a cooldown of 30 seconds.)

Once in the Dream World:

  • Survivors' auras are revealed to The Nightmare when they are inside of his Terror Radius.
  • Survivors suffer an action penalty of 50%.
  • Skill check trigger odds are reduced by 20%.
  • To escape the Dream World, Survivors must find another awake survivor to perform a wake up action.
  • Some failed actions can wake up the survivor.
  • Skill checks in the Dream World are reversed.
  • (The skill check failure area is now the Good Skill Check area, and vice versa. This encourages perks like Unnerving Presence and Overcharge.)
  • Failing a sabotage skill check will not wake them up.
  • Getting hooked wakes up the survivor.

"You have nothing to worry about. This won't hurt one... little... bit."

So there you have it. This is the Freddy rework that I imagined: a killer that controls their own chase, as well as their surroundings! Now, I'm going to explain the add-on reworks. (Most will be very similar, just letting you know.) My goal with the add-ons is to make him somewhat similar to The Doctor, where his perk can be manipulated greatly by his add-ons. Here we go again, same format as in-game:

Wool Shirt (Common Rarity)

A small boy's orange and yellow striped shirt. Identified with a sewn name tag to belong to "Jesse".

  • Slightly decreases skill check chances and size in the Dream World.
  • Stacks.

Sheep Block (Common Rarity)

A white and blue wooden block depicting two woolly lambs grazing and the letter "S".

  • Reduces the Dream Transition by 1 second.
  • Stacks.

Kid's Drawing (Common Rarity)

An unattributed drawing clearly crafted by a young child.

  • Moderately increases the power's range.
  • Stacks.

Garden's Rake (Common Rarity)

A small claw rake, a must-have tool for any accomplished gardener.

  • Slightly increases the speed for breaking pallets using Dream Demon.
  • Slightly increases the cooldown for breaking pallets using Dream Demon.
  • (Increases cooldown by 10 seconds.)
  • Stacks.

Prototype Claws (Uncommon Rarity)

A home-made tool to facilitate bush trimming.

  • Hitting the targeted survivor shortly after using Dream Demon moderately increases their bleeding frequency.
  • Does not stack.

Outdoor Rope (Uncommon Rarity)

Sturdy outdoor rope, handy to tie up anything.

  • When a survivor vaults a window in the Dream World, it is blocked by the Entity for 10 seconds.
  • Considerably decreases the time in which The Nightmare can block a vault.
  • (Time reduced from 20 seconds to 10 seconds. And yes, this means he can block two vaults at once. Bamboozle still applies.)
  • Does not stack.

Nancy's Sketch (Uncommon Rarity)

A crude and bold sketch made with Fusain, signed by Nancy H.

  • Considerably increases the power's range.
  • Slightly increases the time in which The Nightmare can block a vault.
  • (Time increased to 22 seconds.)
  • Slightly increases the time in which The Nightmare can block a generator.
  • (Time increased to 90 seconds.)
  • Slightly decreases the cooldown of The Nightmare's scream ability.
  • (Cooldown reduced to 25 seconds.)
  • Does not stack.

Green Dress (Uncommon Rarity)

A little girl's green dress with a silky white ribbon.

  • Moderately decreases skill check chances and size in the Dream World.
  • Stacks.

Cat Block (Uncommon Rarity)

A white and purple wooden block depicting a sleeping cat and the letter "C".

  • Reduces the Dream Transition by 2 seconds.
  • Stacks.

Unicorn Block (Rare Rarity)

A white and red wooden block depicting a prancing unicorn and the letter "U".

  • Stacks.

Swing Chains (Rare Rarity)

Rusty, but sturdy chains used to securely attach a swing seat.

  • Survivors in the Dream World cannot heal themselves or others.

  • Moderately increases the time in which The Nightmare can block a generator.
  • Moderately decreases the cooldown of The Nightmare's scream ability.
  • Increases the Dream Transition by 1.5 seconds.
  • Does not stack.

Jump Rope (Rare Rarity)

A long Double Dutch jump rope, stained with many years of use.

  • Tremendously increases the time in which The Nightmare can block a generator.
  • Survivors' auras are revealed to The Nightmare when they are within 12 meters of the blocked generator.
  • (This works on awake survivors as well, and the generator will be blocked for up to 120 seconds.)
  • Stacks.

Blue Dress (Rare Rarity)

A little girl's pale, blue dress with a white lace which's front is ruined by violent slashes.

  • Hitting a survivor shortly after using Dream Demon causes the Mangled status effect and moderately reduces their vaulting speed.

A tin of highly volatile and inflammable material.

  • Survivors' repair speed is increased by 50% in the Dream World.
  • All actions in the Dream World reduce the progress instead of adding to it.
  • (Basically while trying to wake themselves up, the survivors are reversing their progress while trying to doing so.)
  • Stacks.

Class Photo (Very Rare Rarity)

A large photograph taken at Badham Preschool, showing the cheerful class of 94-95.

  • When a survivor is pulled into the Dream Transition, all other survivors' auras are revealed to The Nightmare for the duration of the Dream Transition.
  • Increases the Dream Transition by 3 seconds.
  • Stacks.

"Z" Block (Very Rare Rarity)

A deeply scratched and burnt wooden block which's only recognizable feature is the letter "Z".

  • Reduces the Dream Transition by 2.5 seconds.
  • Stacks.

Red Paint Brush (Ultra Rare Rarity)

A large paint brush, wet with crimson paint.

  • Survivors in the Dream World will not be able to see awake survivors unless they are within 4 meters from them.
  • When the survivor is woken up by another survivor, both survivors are inflicted with the Exposed status effect for 45 seconds and their auras are revealed for 5 seconds.
  • Tremendously reduces skill check chances and size in the Dream World.
  • Stacks.

Black Box (Ultra Rare Rarity)

A black cardboard box filled with photographs.

  • You become obsessed with one survivor.
  • The obsession's aura cannot be read using Dream Demon.
  • Survivors's auras within 16 meters of the obsession are revealed to you when the obsession is in the Dream World.
  • Only one obsession per trial.

Well, there's the Freddy rework I had in mind for a while now. The add-ons could be better. Some, like the "Z" Block, should definitely have a more unique function than that. Regardless, thank you for reading. If you like this concept, leave a comment and maybe we could try to present this to the devs to see what they think.

See you in the fog!

  • Everyone else has already said what I wanted to say so I'll talk about your rework lol

I like the idea of using his power in the Dream World to actually manipulate the map, that's a Dream Demon power, to literally manipulate their dreams and that's what Freddy does, he is the master of their nightmare.

That said I think the effects of blocking windows should be smaller than Bamboozle so that having the perk is still better than his power and he can still use it. Blocking only 1 Gen at a time is awesome, 80 seconds might be too high since he can do it multiple times in the match while the Perk is 2 minutes at only the start. I think it should be 15-20 seconds so that he can only use it in a chase. But I don't think he should break pallets with his power, there's no way to make the Perk Spirit Fury better than his power so I don't think it should be a thing.

You really have no grounds to suggest any changes to Freddy if your only experience playing him is via Smoking Splinter. I don’t intend to discourage you. You went to a lot of effort here so I applaud you

Freddy is perfectly fine as he is. He just takes practice and an understanding of how his approach should be. Most suggested buffs to his power & add-ons (not just your suggestions) would make Freddy insanely OP. As it stands most Freddy mains that practice him frequently have no issues getting 4K and don’t allow the “wake up” mechanic (or “seeming” weaknesses) to frustrate them.

Yeah, you're probably right about everything. I just think that it'd be nice to have something more than what his power already is. If you look at all the other killers, they have a unique power that each works differently so survivors have to re-adapt in every game. I'm not saying that doesn't apply to Freddy at all, but it's just that his power is only used to allow him to actually attack survivors. You use the power on a survivor and then it just turns into a normal chase with nothing but the dark mist and Freddy's small size to assist him in the chase. Again, this is coming from someone who doesn't play Freddy, so feel free to criticize if you disagree. (And if I could actually perfect the balancing of the power and add-ons, I'd feel much better about it.)
