The Tutorial Problem
(Just want to disclose I do not have a problem with new players. I have a problem with BHVR not teaching them how to play the game)
Every time we have a big license drop a whole bunch of people come in and get to "Experience" the game.
The basic survivor tutorial is basically the bare minimum of explanation needed and thats it. Doesnt tell go into what you are supposed to do if you are put into deep wound, so the poor survivor going against a Legion will most likely just go down (i've seen it happen multiple times) The generic survivor tutorial is severely outdated and does not explain "looping" or planning out a chase layout for yourself at your current location, in fact it does not go into the concept of a chase at all so it means the survivor will most likely panic when they do get into one in their games. it does not say anything about any killer powers and how they work for/against survivors so if you wanted to know you would have you just click on the killer and just read the wall of text and hope you understand it. Did you know there is a game manual? Well it explains the game, but you would have to sit there and read everything and knowing players they dont want to sit and read for ten minutes about how to play the game. Show, dont tell BHVR.
There needs to be a little simple video showing off these things in real time, Rainbow Six Siege has a little video for each Operator showcasing what their gadget does in realtime and a simple sentence or two telling you in simple and easy fashion. Its no wonder everyone is told to just look up a youtube video and learn that way instead of you know…. the game actually doing its job to teach its players.
Heres an example for killer, if you would click on Plague and it would show a short 15-20 second video showcasing her vomit hitting a survivor, showcasing the sickness bar, showcasing it on pallets and gens, and then showcasing the red puke finally. It would also say as a tip for survivors.
Tip Example: keep in mind the more you cleanse the sickness, the more corrupted pools Plague gets so be mindful on when you cleanse so you dont make her grow in power too quickly.
Heres an example for Survivor, when you click on a survivor it should quickly showcase thier three perks in action. Lets say you pick up Taurie Cain, it should quickly go over here 3 perks in video format showing off The Invocation, STB, and Clean Break in action and little tips to take note of.
Tip Example: when you use Clean Break, keep a low profile while broken and avoid the killer.
BHVR you desperately need to make your game new player friendly, because all the new players who see the license they desperately wanted in a game and they come in to play and are driven away by DBD's complicated nature is really sad to see.
