Go Big or Go Home - BHVR Chooses Go Home
Like a lot of people I'm not surprised things are getting delayed, but, like a lot of what has happened this summer, this feels like such an unforced error on BHVR's part that leaves everyone angry.
Of course the patch was going to be met with massive backlash, so will withdrawing it. Any large scale change will get that sort of reaction. That could have been anticipated and it could have been stated ahead of time that this would be phase 1 of 2.
Or, if BHVR believed such a large scale overhaul was necessary, than they should have committed to what they thought was necessary. Because saying the game needs a radical change, then walking it back makes it really unclear what you believe the current state of the game is.
Or, if BHVR doesn't believe a radical overhaul is necessary, they shouldn't have tried to do something of nearly this scale.
Does the game need radical shake ups, or does it need it need some tweaks?
This reminds me of the go next issue. A few years ago during an ask me anything people asked about the giving up on hook and why don't you just make it impossible to self unhook? BHVR said it would take some time and maybe in a year or so they could get to the issue. Eventually we got a complex anti-go next system that was very quickly nerfed because it didn't work and what were we left with:
The simple solution of preventing people from self unhooking, with exceptions made for perks, which is basically what many people had been telling them to do.
Not only did we deal with a flawed game for years, who knows how much development time was wasted trying to find a perfect solution when a really good/easy one was right in front of them the whole time (another example was the everyone down = 4k with a version of basekit unbreakable, when lots of people were suggesting they should just make a mori basekit at the end, which is what ended up happening).
Just, please stop doing this BHVR. Its okay to take the obvious solution or try something small and update it if it doesn't do enough.
P.S. Major announcements that will turn people on each other don't have to happen on Friday evenings.

yes this is sort of cringe I really do not like the system and I think it's just another one of their anti-killer changes (and no word about how it absolutely bones sadako and pinhead lol) but they need to not be afraid to push major things like this and back out last second… like of course there is going to be backlash but the only way forward is to try new things and go crazy
