A Practical Blueprint to Save Dead by Daylight (Before It’s Too Late)

A Practical Blueprint to Save Dead by Daylight (Before It’s Too Late)

Let’s skip the vague feedback. It’s time for action. Here’s a clear, community-informed blueprint to fix Dead by Daylight — and no, it’s not just “buff killers” or “nerf survivors.” This is about long-term balance, fairness, and identity.

---

1. Revert the Original Pip System for Ranked Play

Bring back the emblem-based ranking model where skill = progress.

Reward killers for hook states, pressure, and chase wins — not only 4Ks.

Reward survivors for gens, heals, unhooks, escaping, or at least trying.

> This lets players improve and rank up even in losses — if they played well.

---

2. Add Permanent Quick Play and 2v8 Game Modes

Quick Play: For fun, experimentation, dailies, or casual survivors/killers. No pressure, no MMR.

2v8: Let it live in its own queue. Great for social chaos, content creators, and stress-free gameplay.

> Don’t try to cram every type of player into Ranked — give us lanes.

---

3. Nerf Gen Speed & Toolbox Stacking

Reduce base toolbox efficiency, especially BNP abuse.

Cap synergy stacking (Prove + Hyperfocus + Stakeout + toolbox = busted).

Then you can remove gen regression caps because they won’t be needed anymore.

> Fix the source (gen rush), and you don’t need band-aids (Pain Res spam).

---

4. Keep Regression Perk Nerfs — But Make Them Strategic, Not Mandatory

Regression perks are fine if gens are slowed to earned speed.

No more “4 regression perks or lose in 4 minutes.”

> Balanced slowdown = balanced counterplay = better pacing.

---

5. Remove "Gimme" Perks That Undermine Skill

Windows of Opportunity, Low Profile, Deja Vu, etc. should go or be reworked.

> These remove risk, overinform players, and replace awareness with auto-win tools.

---

6. Implement Proximity Chat via Discord SDK in Ranked

Use Discord’s developer toolkit (already available) for seamless proximity comms.

This ends full-map SWF dominance in competitive queues without killing social play.

> In Quick Play, keep normal party comms. In Ranked? Everyone plays on equal audio footing.

---

Why All This Matters:

The real issue isn’t “killer bad, survivor OP.”

It’s that the game no longer rewards skill, respect, or strategy.

It rewards perk stacking, external comms, and meta abuse — while punishing nuance.

---

Summary Fixes:

Problem/Solution

Gens fly too fast Nerf toolboxes + synergy stacking

Killers feel powerless Remove regression cap post-gen nerf

SWF dominates ranked Enforce proximity chat via Discord SDK

Ranked feels broken Revert pip system to original emblems

Casuals vs. sweats clash Separate Quick Play from Ranked

Power creep Gut “auto-win” perks and force smart choices

---

Final Thoughts:

DBD doesn’t need reinvention.

It needs restoration.

The old systems worked.

We’ve all said it for 2+ years.

This is your chance, BHVR, to act before your core playerbase walks.

  • Saying "auto-win" about WoO/Deja Vu is legitimately hilarious. I wish everyone would just realize it's a company that struck gold and they know it. Which is why they don't care about your frustrations. They may say they care and a few may, but it'll NEVER and I mean NEVER get better. 2016-2019 dbd is gone. They'll never have this game in a healthy state, the community will never be at peace. We're all the product.

  • I mean, honestly, there really isn't a way to save DBD. The game is only afloat because it's just about the only asymm consistently on the market and that's because of the established IP's they've added content for, that's it. BHVR is a pretty bad studio that can't really create successful games by their own merit, which is why DBD is their only commercial success and even that's pushing it lol The gameplay loop is pretty antiquated and it's just becoming more glaring with each update, but people will still eat it up depending on if an IP they love is added.

DBD is a game that's cultivated salt and spite as a baseline. For that to be changed, most of the gameplay would need to be overhauled and that will never happen. BHVR will just continue to release pay to win content and DLC based off established IP's to keep their studio afloat with the occasional new game that will flop. The most they will do are updates with badly placed band-aid fixes that never hold up and just end up creating more issues.

  • You can't only nerf the surviviors and have a "good, healthy game".

Surviviors already don't queue up as much as before, the game became unfun for them and we all know this.

Without surviviors there is no killer games.

Killer queue in Europe is already 5x worse then few months back.

  • Also, we can't make 2v8 permanent because it messes up the queue times.

How would that Discord stuff interact with the PlayStations and Xbox, who already have comms built in that cannot be messed with? And what about Switch, who cannot use comms at all? Altogether the consoles are by far the largest portion of the playerbase.
