Can still mori survivors after Devour Hope has been cleansed. (6.1.0)

I was playing a match on Lery's as The Wraith, using Hex: Devour Hope, Hex: Undying, Deadlock and another perk that I can't remember. After reaching 5 stacks of Devour Hope, I killed a survivor by my own hand. The survivors then cleansed my totem, removing the exposed status effect. They were no longer exposed, but after I downed them I could still kill them by my own hand. Sadly I do not have any screenshots or videos and I haven't been able to reproduce it since.
