DC notification waits until hook?

I just had a game where there was a big hitch when I picked up a survivor, so I assumed they'd just DCed, but they stayed connected until I hooked them, at which point they immediately DCed. Is that a new mechanic, where if a survivor DCs you get to hook them anyway?

    Nope, I had some survivors DC while I was carrying them last night. Even had someone DC as I was in the hook animation and didn't get my pop.

    ah, OK. Weird, then, that there was a big hitch when I picked them up and would expect them to DC, and then they DCed on the hook. Could've been a network error, too, though, since now that I think about it there was another hitch later in the match.
